Roller Coaster Inflammation Markers after Pfizer

Thought I would pass this on: It's a mystery!

I reported here that my sed rate jumped from 32 to 58 after my first Pfizer Covid vaccination. Interestingly, after the second jab it plummeted to 6- then rose to 11 a week later. I asked my GCA specialist what he makes out of this. His reply, "I don't know why it happened, but we aren't going to chase the numbers. We are going to go by how you feel."

Has anyone else experienced changes in their blood work post vaccination?

I’d expect the sed rate to rise after vaccination and perhaps it plummeted after the second just because there was a lag as there can be with markers and perhaps the reaction wasn’t so extreme the second time round as some report.

Haven't had them checked.

I think I've placed too much importance on inflammation markers to determine active disease/flare. On the other hand, why keep checking each month if unimportant?

There are people for whom it is worth it - but for some the markers lag way behind (as much as 6 months!) and for others they never budge enough for some doctors to accept they mean anything. That's why it is a case of monitoring them and looking for links for you early on. But everything should go in the diary- dose, blood tests, symptoms in in the days following a change in dose. Too many doctors want to treat the lab results and the textbook, not the patient in front of them
