Hot flushes

I’m way past menopausal symptoms and I’m down to 8mg pred but these hot flushes are so annoying.

Do they eventually stop as I taper further?

Also I’m about to go onto monthly ibandronic tablets. Has anyone experienced any unpleasant side effects from these?

Have you had them all the way through, or just started now? If former, they do usually reduce as you taper, but if the latter could be related to adrenal glands having to start working again.

Have you looked at the related posts?

It depends what is causing them - sweats getting worse is a sure sign I am having a flare and it doesn't really matter what dose.

I'm a male of the species and I have recently started getting hot flushes like my wife gets at her certain age. Started about the time I got the first Pfizer vaccine in January and still going on today. Probably getting about 5 or 6 hot flushes a day randomly and can't associated with any activity but usually when I am not doing anything. Hope that I am not turning into a female of our species in my old age. Convincingly I still love the ladies. What's going on?

How strange - have you reported it using the yellow card scheme?

in reply toPMRpro

Not yet, but have reported increased pains which appears to be different to PMR pains. They come and go in various places over my body. Current one is side of right hand rib cage when I take a deep breath, am watching it closely in case it gets worse.

Very strange, there are some very strange things going on with me since I had the vaccine. I know there appeared to be no other way to combat covid but to use these experimental so called vaccines, the guys who invented them are certainly finding out how the affect many of us. I feel as though I have more general inflammation going on in my body than just PMR.

They aren't experimental - and they are vaccines. The technology has been in use for years in immunotherapy, in cancer and other things. They were also originally developing them to use for SARS1 and MERS but they fell off the radar because the numbers didn't require a vaccine, T&T worked.

There is also evidence they may help more than half of people with long Covid.

in reply toPMRpro

Interesting, but not used for Covid 19 before, so therefore experimental ?

Not in my book - once it has shown it is effective against the subject, that's past experimental. It's passed the safety tests, it has now been used in millions and it works. Definitely no longer experimental. And there are more problems being found with the more "traditional" virus vector options from AZ and J&J - although the scientists do think they can tweak them to not cause clots. The only tweaking Pfizer and Moderna needed was to be able to store them longer/at lower temperatures and make them work for the variants.

Still interesting, thanks. However there does appear to be some strange side effects being reported by friends and I don't think it is their imagination or mine.

Oh no - but if as many people worldwide were getting the flu jab or shingles jabs altogether, you'd hear these sort of effects then too.

True.

Mine have definitely got better at lower doses, but they were really horrendous initially.

I was on Ibandronic acid for three and a half years - no side effects but we are all different.
