plump the cushions,

clear away the cup and crumbs,

letters, bills and books.

Nor smooth the crumpled sheet.

But in my mind

I will have stretched,

reached out

to make space

with love and joy,

wanted you to be

comfortable,

to put your feet

up on the table

and laugh.

Like any of this matters.
