Expected duration on pred for PMR and CGA patients

Has anyone read this study, published 26 February 2021?

"Treatment Patterns, Disease Burden, and Outcomes in Patients with Giant Cell Arteritis and Polymyalgia Rheumatica: A Real-World, Electronic Health Record-Based Study of Patients in Clinical Practice"

Or Claire Barnard's summary of the study?

"High rates of long-term glucocorticoid use in people with GCA, PMR"

It amazes me that 23 % of PMR patients are off pred and symptom-free in under 18 months.

Are these the links you reference?

If you refer to studies it does help if you include the links in your post.

I used to include links but my post was then routed through moderators. Is this still the case?

I noticed others were just quoting the title of the web page. A title is easy to Google. Just block the title, right click, and select Google. 🙂

I’ve linked many things in past and never had an issue with mods.

I know it’s easy to find link, I did it....but some new or inexperienced users maybe aren’t sure how to do it, and don’t get the best out of your post.

Thank you. Maybe I've never tried linking on HealthUnlocked. I shall link in future.

Not on this site - the patient.info forums only allowed very limited links without moderation but the PMRGCA site there is next to defunct now they don't issue notifications of new posts! They did extend it to include certain sources but HU has never stopped them.

I had noticed how quiet the patient.info forum for PMR had been lately. 😢

I haven't logged on for weeks - too busy here to fool around with it.

I saw it recently - I remember thinking it was the latest confirmation that PMR ISN'T an 18 month to 2 year event!

europepmc.org/article/med/3...

has a link to read it free.

That certainly agrees with the study Eric Matteson published a few years ago , also based on medical records but which goes over a far longer time and they found 20% are off pred in a year, by 2 years the figure is about 30%. Half of patients require pred beyond 6 years - albeit usually at a lowish dose - but at 10 years 40% of patients still need some pred.

These are the sort of figures I'd have said from my time on the forums - although you don't often come across the 1 year cohort because they fulfil the doctor's expectations and never seek outside help. I do know of a fair number who got off pred in a couple of years.
