For the past two months my stomach has become very acid. I do take 40 mg of Pantoloc every morning. Anyone have any advice? I am on 4.5 mg pred in the morning and 1mg in afternoon.
I was doing not to bad till I moved the 1 mg to the afternoon. My rheumatologist told me to take the 1 mg in the afternoon as I was having a lot of pain in the late evening and night. The pain has decreased but the stomach is awful.
Thanks for any advice.

Hi there. I'm thinking several things here. Firstly, do you take your 1mg with any food in the afternoon. Taking it on an empty stomach could be highly irritant to the gut so even having a few spoonfuls of yoghurt first will help. Secondly, the Pantoloc itself may not be agreeing with you as doesn't always suit everyone. I take gastro-resistant prednisolone but still take them with food as a secondary safeguard against digestive issues occurring.
I'm sure others will be along soon with some more information to help you. Hope you get it sorted.
What about trying the 1mg at the time of your main evening meal? That should be soon enough to sort the evening pain and also cushion the gastric effect - I'm surprised 1mg is enough to make that much difference.
I began to get pretty severe gastric effects after several successful years on Prednisalone plus thick Greek yoghurt. I decided to try gastric resistant Prednisalone. After a settling in period I have very little trouble at all now. I am able to take them at bedtime and wake up feeling well.
It is, but when the coating breaks down all that happens is that a plain pred tablet is released in the stomach - just 4 hours later than you swallowed it.
Would you be so kind as to add some info to your profile. It saves a lot of wasted suggestions when we know which country someone lives in and what they have already tried that may or may not have worked.
