Covid jab with Azithromycin.

As well asPMR I suffer from bronchiectasis and take Azithromycin 3 times a week to prevent infection. I know antibiotics would not normally interfere with a virus jab but have read that this particular one was once considered as a cure for Covid. I’m now worrying I’ve stopped my jab from working. Can anyone reassure me? Be very grateful if you could.

A quick google look just brings up studies that have found Azithromycin to be ineffective against COVID 19 as a drug. This suggests that it would be perfectly fine with the vaccine. I would ask my pharmacist they are pretty good on these questions.

Thank you.

It was touted because of its antiinflammatory effect - trialed and rejected as it didn't make any difference to the disease.

I don't think I'd worry too much - presumably you declared it for the questionniare?

Thank you. It was done by a nurse from my GP’s surgery. No questionnaire, just if I was allergic to anything. But you said what I hoped, and I may takeSheffieldJane’s advice as well and ask my pharmacist. I’m a bit neurotic at the moment.

Really? I thought there was a medical questionnaire to weed out those who needed closer questioning by a doctor!!

Not at my GP surgery.

I take it, too, for repeated chest infection problems. I asked my doctor if I was ok to have the vaccine (I am allergic to 44 things, including penicillin, as well), & he said it would be fine. And it was. Had Astra Zeneca jab on Thursday, no reaction, no problems. I was sidelined at the cathedral where I had my jab & it was done by a doctor instead of a nurse, & asked more questions, but all was well. I had not heard of any of these issues...azithromycin & paracetamol until they were raised on this forum & I feel, if they were an issue, the media would have picked them up, as well as the entire medical profession & it would have been flagged up!

Thank you Pixix, that’s very reassuring.

Good! There’s a lot of time free for worrying at the moment, I think, & it makes it harder..but, if in doubt, do phone your surgery! S x
