Hi, woke up this morning with sore lips inside, top is mouth ulcers right across and bottom red and sore, never had mouth ulcers before, is it from prednisolone or just one of those things? Has anyone else had this?

..... just a thought, but could this be thrush? You have recently finished a course of antibiotics- and I believe Prednisolone makes us more susceptible to thrush. Is your tongue sore?

No just lips

Just a heads up....shortly after I started prednisone I developed shingles which started in my mouth with small ulcers that eventually spread to my face, ear and scalp.

Think Songbird69 might be right. Pred suppresses our immune system and makes us much more susceptible to all infections, includingfungal infections. Having recently been on antibiotics suggests strongly that it could be oral thrush but you'd need to get it checked out properly by pharmacist or GP to ensure it's treated appropriately. In meantime, you could just gently rinse your mouth out with salt water....and natural yogurt has a cooling, soothing effect. If it is thrush you'll probably be given an anti-fungal gel to apply. Hope you get sorted.

~I always know when I am low in the B vitamin group - usually break out in mouth ulcers. With thrush I note my tongue will have a yellowish coating of a morning - have a silver tongue scrapper (scrapper not the right word) bought from Health shop & cleans tongue + breath beautifully :) :)

Take oral Nilstat + the usual prx'd inserted cream as we are prone to thrush even without antibiotics ~

I assume you aren't on methotrexate as well?

No

Then the most likely cause is oral thrush.

Hi.i had thrush in the month,my touch was covered in white spots, rung gp.and it was fungal thrush, had a mouth wash which I had to take 4 times a day,it cleared it up.

Update, thanks all seen gp and I had different inhaler about 2wks ago and she thinks this is irritating my mouth/ lips, so got to stop using this one and try different one, also mouthwash 4 times a day to try and stop any infection and hopefully heal quicker

If it is a steroid inhaler, have you ever been told to rinse your mouth out with water after every use? Otherwise it will lead to thrush

in reply toPMRpro

It was change from steroid inhaler to non steroid but never said to rinse mouth out

It is usually OK with the non-steroid ones but you should always be told to rinse after using a steroid one.

Hello Karenwelsh

I haven't had this problem during the 18 months of having PMR

However I did have post viral fatigue .following an illness .. I had ulcers from time to time and discovered it was from eating tomatoes. The condition cleared almost immediately I gave up eating them

Worth giving up for a few weeks to see if it works for you.

I really hope you improve and start to feel loads better

Maggie.
