Mouth ulcers

Just a quick question this morning. I am suffering from mouth ulcers. Its the third time in 8 months and I have never had any before that. is there any link with PMR or PMR drugs that anyone else has experienced at all or maybe my immune system is just so out of wack?

Because the Pred stops your immune system working as normal, it does leave you open to being more susceptible to getting infections - be they minor or more serious.Many complain of recurring infections, UTIs being very common as is oral thrush or mouth ulcers.

If you’ve had treatment from pharmacy and it hasn’t worked, maybe time to get something a little stronger from doctor ….

Hello, I was prone to mouth ulcers, especially when above 10mg. I expect the immune system lowering effect has something to do with it. Mine were sometimes at the back of my tongue where it was either bitten or held against the back teeth of I slept heavily. If the ulcer hangs around for more than a 4 weeks or so get it checked by a dentist.

You could try eating more folate/B9 - the dietary form of folate is better than folic acid supplements but they might be helpful too.

Thank you for your prompt replies. I have some folic acid supplements from the short time I was taking MTX so will use them up and look at my diet.

What did your doctor give you? My father suffered with dreadful mouth ulcers all his life, but it’s a bit early in the day & I can’t remember the name of the medication…but woukd probably recognise it (dratted brain fog!)

I havnt been to the doctor yet. Was just hoping for advice. If they continue I will go.
