I’ve managed to secure a Covid vaccination slot for next Friday, not easy in the US at present!
I’m having some back and hip pain, I think arthritis. The back pain is in one side and seems like a muscle. No fever, cough, or headaches or loss of smell or taste.
I’m thinking it might be a small flare because of stress, or the pain is just from stress and lack of sleep. Ibuprofen and stretching helps some. Am presently without a rheumatologist and haven’t seen my GP lately. She’s prescribing my pred. Currently stuck at 13 mg.
If it is a flare, is it not advised to get the vaccine while that’s going on?
Hope you are all safe and doing well.

If it is on one side and feels like a muscle it probably is just that rather than a flare. I have myofascial pain syndrome as part of my PMR and often get muscle pain like that without the PMR itself being in a flare - it is very easy to strain one of the delicate muscles. And if ibuprofen and stretching helps that is another bit of evidence. I find sitting with a hot water bottle over the sore area helps a lot - been doing that after a dose of ibuprofen today and the difference is amazing thank goodness.
I have had similar pain in recent days, lower back to one side, as well as pain around the ribs. I am going for my jab when called come hell or high water, even if it means a week in bed. I do not want to end up in ICU, if there is anything I can do to prevent it. God bless all the souls in there and the valiant medics trying to help, and save them.
Just to say I had my Covid vaccination 6 days ago here in the UK, am on 5mg pred for pmr - and had absolutely no side effects from the vaccination. Not even soreness around the vaccination point.
