I take 3x5mg every morning but somehow this morning I dropped 1 and didnt notice until just now when it was the time of the day where I deep clean my kitchen work tops before bed., and already today started to get pain which I thought was strange as I've had no pain since started them 5 days ago. I cant believe just by missing 1 this morning how much pain I ve had today. The pain is nothing like it was but definitely can feel it. As I'm new to here and pmr and pred now i think i understand how u all feel when yr does get lower. I still cant believe how quick pain returns xx

Early days the dose you take is doing two jobs, mopping up the accumulated inflammation already in system prior to diagnosis, as well as controlling the new inflammation produced daily.
It might only be one tablet, but it’s the difference between 15mg and 10mg - and certainly not the amount that would normally be tapered.
But you now know how important it is to take the correct dose.
BTW , when you do start tapering proper it will be a 2.5mg drop or maybe 1mg - but not until the built up inflammation is gone and you’re only dealing with that produced daily.
Thanks. Dont know how I dropped one without noticing but iwill definitely learn by my mistake
It's surprisingly easy to drop a tablet accidentally. I dropped one up my jumper sleeve once and it fell out when I got undressed at night. After that I started to put my tablets every morning on an old bright blue tea plate that I have. The white tablets show up very sharply against the blue and it's easy to see if there's the right number.
Hi,Yes, I can believe it! I think that most of us on this forum will have forgotten to take their pred on at least one occasion if not more. We learn the hard way.
It's not that bad a reminder that we most definitely need to take this medicine . In my case I learned just how much difference even a half mg can make.
Hope all is well for you now, and remember that the slower the taper the better!
Best wishes for 2021.

A rheumy who was sceptical about a PMR diagnosis did give me 6 weeks of pred to tide me over a business trip to the US, 2 weeks each of 15, 10 and 5, then I would see him again a few weeks later for a real diagnosis (which he never made). I picked up the pred at 10am and stood outside the chemist to take them there and then. About 4pm I got up from the computer, walked downstairs, made a cup of tea and carried it back up. Then I realised what I had done - far less pain and no stiffness causing me to stomp down and literally crawl back up the stairs, placing the mug as far up the stairs as I could and crawling up to to it. I finished the course and felt fine even at 5mg - I even went to see the GP to tell him so it was in my notes how quickly I had responded - but within 6 hours of missing the first 5mg dose I was in bed in tears with pain that felt worse than pre-pred.
