Hi I’ve recently been diagnosed with PMR at 49 years old and have been on steroids for 5 weeks now
The doctors have just rang and says I’m now eligible for a flu vaccine , I’m I safe to get one with my immune system being low ?
Thanks

As the flu vaccine for adults does NOT contain any live virus you are not putting yourself at risk if you get it. This year more than ever we are encouraged to have the flu shot.
Fab thanks for the reply I’m booked in for tomorrow
Hi Parker15, I had a flu vaccine last autumn approximately 5 weeks after diagnosis of PMR and had no problem whatsoever. Best to get it done now and your surgery seems to be on the ball.
The vast majority of us have had it - and it is doubly important this year.
Had mine in Oct and pneumonia one in November. Everything was completely fine.
Yes. It’s important, as you are more likely to catch flu. It’s not a live vaccine, so it is a priority for us. I didn’t even feel a bit off after mine. Welcome to the forum Parker15. I am sorry you have got PMR, especially in view of your youth. The good news is, you’ve found us quickly. This safe haven is a fount of knowledge, support, experience and ultimately comfort.
Hi Parker15 , I was 48 when diagnosed they kept saying I as too young for PMR so it took quite a while to get to the right doctor and finally put on prednisolone. I haven’t heard of many younger people with PMR , how are you coping with it all because i do find it quite difficult.
Hi I’m coping okay my right arm seems to pain all the time rest of my joints only ache slightly...a work colleague has a son 30 year old now he was told he had it when he was 15 ...bless Hope you doing okay
Hello, yes, I had mine months ago with no ill effects
