If your pain is PMR related, then no you shouldn’t be in pain if on the correct dose of Pred, nor should you reduce.

Does your GP think the pain is something other than PMR - or does he just not understand the illness?

Just looked at your previous post- as you’ve only had PMR for 3 years, you may still have a way to go.

Sounds like you have a way to go yet if you are still in pain. Therefore from my experience it's too soon to reduce.

As I said to your elsewhere - the response to the starting dose is your guide. If you can get to pain-free there then you look for PMR pain-free as you reduce. If PMR pain resurfaces it usually means you have overshot what you are looking for: the lowest dose that gives the same result as the starting dose did. You may have pain after a step down but if it improves over the following week or so then it was probably due to dropping the dose. If it gets worse - you have gone too low and need to go back to the previous dose that was enough.

I wish I could remember what my response was to my starting dose! It was soooo long ago!

I can still remember that first day, standing outside the pharmacy and swallowing the pills - and getting up, walking downstairs about 6 hours later and back up holding a cup of tea. And then it hit me, what I had just achieved ...

I can, vividly!.....never felt that good again. I walked around a lovely large lake with OH, he said we'll you're half way round, how do you feel?...remember I said, if I go back or carry on it's the same!...it was no problem....I raced a friend to a cafe, she said I want what you're on...she doesn't say that now!

I remember walking down the stairs at home normally and when I got to the bottom I suddenly realised what I’d done. What a feeling. 😊
