Covid 19 vaccine

Wondering if anybody knows whether people on prednisolone for PMR will be protected by the Covid 19 vaccine?

I’m on quite a low dose (3 mg). The information seems to be that it is safe to have the vaccine, but it may not provide as much protection.

NO-ONE knows - the studies show it works well in relatively healthy people which is, after all, the majority. More work is required to show who else. But we all get our flu vaccine while on pred - and it does provide some protection at least. And that is what matters - the chances are reduced even if not eliminated.

Depending on your age the vaccine may be a long time coming because I heard yesterday that it is being rolled out to NHS staff first (quite rightly imo) and then to Care Homes and after that the over 80s so plenty of time to do more research I think.

I am a 55 yr old nhs worker currently on 3mg /4mg reducing pred dose. I had covid in Dec19, pretty bad but not bad enough for hospital admission. I think this was helped by increasing my pred to 2 x 10mg a day as per my rhumatology covid plan for 7 days. Anyway had my first az covid shot yesterday and have flare type symptoms as well as shivvers, sore arm! I am hoping it only lasts 24hrs as oyhers have reported, but jhaving had covid and suorted my elderly mum and husband through their hospital admissions and recovery, I will defo be going back for the next one. It beats dying! So in answer to your question I dont know. But getting covid is far worse!
