Some people do find the repositioning of the fat to the face and neck makes breathing harder.

When you say “trying” a keto diet, what does that mean in reality? Unfortunately When taking Pred there is very little leeway with going off the rails with diet. You really need to do this. It’s not just weight, it is diabetes too.

Trying to deal with it by getting down the Pred ladder isn’t an option as the effects, I found, carry on long into low doses. Some people can coast on low carb but some have to be virtually no carb. Also, low salt is a must to reduce the fluid retention.

Have you done a food diary? It is usually quite illuminating. Lots of discussions on diet have been had so searching weight gain or low carb diet etc is worth it. Hopefully someone will reply with useful books on low carb recipes.

Personally I don't bother with diet cook books - I prefer to apply the basic concepts to my normal eating patterns.

This explains the idea of low carb - it doesn't have to be keto but it does need care with carbs:

dietdoctor.com/

and you can learn what to eat and what to avoid free. There are also recipes and meal suggestions. The primary focus though must be not to make major changes that you don't like - one lady cut 25% of carbs the first couple of weeks, then another 25% and so on. Smaller adjustments are easier to come to terms with and you get used to it more easily.

As Snazzy says, you can't "try" with keto, it either is or it isn't. And the place to start is with a food diary.

thanks . I have cut sugar out and nearly all carbs but not game to cut back any further with so much going on I would just love to get this weight off. Walking 8000 to 10000 steps per day the next thing I will have to cut out is the cap in the morning and afternoon but I find that keeps me going. 1/2 strength cap. but perhaps it is the milk Thanks. Diet doctor is excellent

What is a cap ?

The problem with Pred is that before you put anything in your mouth it already forces your liver to convert some of its stores into glucose every so often. These sugar spikes trigger a surge in insulin which removes the sugar from the blood into fat production because high sugar in the blood is bad for the body. This then causes a sugar low which then makes you need to bump it up again because you feel depleted or ill. And so the cycle starts again. Add to this extra glucose forming foods (any carb not just sugar) and your blood sugars spend a lot of time high with horrible lows in between. If your insulin producing pancreas becomes unable to keep this up you become diabetic. Once you are off most carbs this rollercoaster smooths out and you feel better. When my Pred was much above 10mg I ate masses as long as it was veg, protein or certain fruits eg berries. I did not go hungry. My weekly treat was two glasses of wine and daily I had two squares of 85% dark choc. The worst foods are the padding foods like pasta, bread, rice, anything made with flours, maize etc. Of course glucose and sucrose are outlawed, but to be honest once I’d gone to very low carb, I became very sensitive to sweetness and found most things unbearable.
