Will a calcium and D3 diet be better than taking Adcal D3. Also on 20 mg omeprazole which can lessen calcium absorption.

If you really can get your dietary calcium up to where it needs to be then it is preferable - but without lots of dairy you will struggle.

However - that research is disputed. The increase in arterial calcification and CVD was seen in young healthy women not on medication taking calcium supplements they didn't really need and not together with vit D. The same effect wasn't seen in women who also took adequate vit D. Vit K2 is also recommended to get the calcium where it should be. Other things like magnesium are also important,

And however we may want it, we aren't young and healthy and the medication we are on only creates an even greater need for calcium etc.

It can be so confusing with these medical statements. My friend has been on Adcal-D 3 for 20 years and sister in law 6 years with no adverse issues. I would prefer the healthy diet route but will for now take my medication (only 3rd week.)

Worth working out how much you take in your diet - and it is surprising how it can mount up! One 100g ball of mozzarella cheese - the amount you'd eat in a mozzarella. tomato and basil salad - is three-quarters of your daily allowance of calcium! But get some vit D on its own and take that - just as if not more important than the calcium in AdCal and co!
