I have PMR/GCA vasculitis and PAD. My question is about antibiotics I am on some heavy duty antibiotics for six weeks and my GP wants me to continue for another four weeks but I am so absolutely bone tired.(Rheumatologist wanted me in the hospital for intervenous antibiotics but my GP did not want me in that environment) I don’t think I’m having a flare ( slight pain in shoulders ) , Could antibiotics cause this weariness?

Some antibiotics list fatigue as a rare side effect - but rare or not, it happens. Some antibiotics leave you feeling quite rubbish - but no-one really knows why,

I dunno, not as rare as it is made out, especially the older people get I’ve heard more complaints of fatigue and feeling “unnecessary” as one person put it.

"feeling unnecessary" - love it!😂

It isn't - WE know that - and yes, "feeling unnecessary" - perfect. But it applies a lot to many drugs when used in over 55s, very different world to their use in younger people.

I’m currently on antibiotics for a tooth infection. I increased my steroids as per the ‘sick day rules’..list now a pinned post here, & this not only counteracted the ‘rubbish’ I usually feel, but helped my pains so much, too! The antibiotics only partially worked & I think I may have to lose the tooth, but, PMR wise I feel great! I didn’t increase the steroids quite as much as the sick day rules said, but enough to make a difference! Perhaps ask your GP about this, or, if unaware (as I was) have a read of the sick day rules first! Hope you feel less unnecessary rubbish soon...I’ve had a lot of IV antibiotics in my time & don’t envy you the heavy doses, but hope they work, & that my story helps, perhaps! S x
