Hi all I’ve had ultra sound scan and my Gp has decided I have many problems with bones in shoulders all come on over night two months ago not long after my mum died.
I researched PMR and was convinced I had this but no it’s OSTEO arthritis, tear in both shoulders, bursitis etc,
I have been given a form to go online and book for orthopaedic appointment. Thank you for all the info and help.

Thank you x I had the feedback from Gp he said didn’t think I have pmr and that he didn’t want me having steroids due to my bones not being great. I was given referral for osteo clinic but at the moment can’t get an appointment booked.
The pain is pretty horrible and my thighs and stomach are over compensating for me not using arms to get in or out of bed and aching quite a lot feel older than I am I’m 55 and don’t see the light just yet x
I had a shoulder replacement in February this year (still recovering) and have arthritis in the other one (they didn’t come on together) - and although both are painful they don’t stop me getting out of bed.
Osteoarthitis isn't an overnight attack - and there is no reason why you can't have both it and PMR. The fact they found bursitis is also a signpost that it COULD be PMR - not to mention the tendinopathy and tenosynovitis, also found in PMR.
Since your GP obviously wears blinkers I hope you get a more broadminded orthopaedic specialist who thinks laterally - but I do suspect you may have a bit of a wait!
I’ve got OA (had surgery every year on upper body for 10 years) many years before GCA and PMR. I was due more surgery but BC stopped that. PMR is commonly bilateral pain in the hips, thighs, arms and back up to the neck in me. If untreated can cause GCA so don’t wait too long to get an appointment.
Was diagnosed with OA in the facet joints in lower spine this year just before lockdown....it was a long time with the pain coming on....physio rang me, then emailed the exercises to do...which have helped.....strange times to get treatment now....good luck....
