Milia?

fitzida profile image

Has anyone else with PMR developed a raised whitish facial cyst. I'm in self-isolation and have been aware of this for several months. A google search has suggested this could be a benign condition called milia. Should I trust my self-diagnosis or be concerned as to the possibility of a more sinister condition?

How big is it?

On close examination it's two white spots the size of p.inheads side by side and the surrounding skin is reddened. Despite looking as though they contain pus they're hard to the touch. They have been there for a couple of months so I thought it high time to seek advice. Many thanks.

suggests way of deaking with them and this

has a really good image.

If that is what they look like - it is unlikely to be a problem waiting for some weeks in which timest hey may well disappear on their own or with some gentle help. And they will wait until you do have to see the GP for another reason

Thanks so much for your reply. I am feeling fairly reassured by looking at the images as mine are just two small ones side by side. My neglect up until now is that I've suffered bouts of adult acne over the years and become rather inured to the sight of spots. I shall take more responsibility from now on.

I was plagued by this ( or similar) before my PMR diagnosis. My skin has been really clear since Pred.

Me too

Sadly mine appeared a year after starting Pred. However once (fingers crossed) these two little ones go I hope that will be an end to the matter.

I tend to get milia around my face (like babies do!!) they do seem to disappear eventually although I do know a beautician who will remove them.

I'm self-isolating for the moment but once things return to normal I shall certainly seek help should the condition persist. Many thanks

I don’t think the lady who I use is open at the moment. They will probably be the last to open along with hairdressers and chiropodists.

Thanks Piglette. If I have any concerns in the interim shall get back in touch.

I have been plagued with these for years..some would probably advise against this..but personally I clean the area with alcohol..same with a pin..prick the skin..inside is a small hard white bead..if you don't remove them when they're tiny..they continue to grow..some are close to the surface and others are deeper..I have never had any that have left a scar..

I have one below my eye - call it a white head- very tiny but solid and because it’s in the soft tissue can’t attack it as I’d dearly love to.

So I may now of leave well alone or follow the advice of deadeye1966. Very grateful to have this Forum to turn to in worrying times.

Depends where on your face as to whether to try and get rid - as I said mines too near soft tissue. When we were young and had blackheads we used the loop end on a hair grip to press on them and they popped out. The white ones seem to have a harder core - just remember you will make a small graze but it heals back to nothing.

Pleased this forum is of use to you....

I developed a few under my eyes when I was on higher dose. Now they have gone. I had thought that it was a bit of fat accumulation which has now dispersed.
