I've joined this forum on behalf of my mum ... She won't do these herself because I think she just gets to upset half the time .
But she's had no smell or tastebuds for a year now .
She's had tests and they can't find anything but reading on-line it seems to stem from some trauma ( mainly head ) of some sort ... ( sh had a really bad cold last summer )
She says the smell up her nose is absolutely vile ... I'm wondering if anyone has tried hypnosis to try trick the brain receptors In to functioning somehow ?
Has anyone tried it or can recommend a good hypnotherapist?
Thanks so much X

This really isn't the forum for you - it is mainly for PMR/GCA patients. We do have smell and taste issues but it is usually because of the cortisone (or something similar) that we are taking.
I lost my sense of smell and taste for almost two years after a very heavy cold, well before I had PMR or GCA. The residual taste and smell were disgusting ; I do sympathise with your mother. A friend who was an ENT specialist gave me series of tests smelling or trying to smell various things - one that I got a very faint whiff of was cinnamon and I was told that this was a positive indicator that smell and taste could come back although perhaps not for a while. Perhaps your mother could try this?
If, when, it does come back it's marvellous. I remember walking past a florist's shop and being almost in tears at the smell of roses. I do hope this happens for your mother.
