Hi just wondering if other LVV people have felt worse for what should be a pleasant bubble bath ?? I feel like I’ve been in the boxing ring ! Not what I was expecting
Jacuzzi bath : Hi just wondering if other LVV... - PMRGCAuk
Jacuzzi bath
Do you mean weary or in pain?
I dont have LVV bit i went in a jacuzzi last march whilst on my youngest daughters hen party and i came away with such a severe rash that no amount of creams and such from the doctor could cure it and ended up at an emergency appt with a dermatologist. It took weeks to go and was put down to infection from the jacuzzi water so i would be very careful where you use these things.YBB
It’s at home, but after how I feel I won’t be doing it again any time soon!. Used to find it really relaxing, haven’t risked getting in the bath for ages in case I couldn’t get out, but think I will just stick with a shower
I prefer a bath but have to admit getting out is quite a sight and often involves tidal waves of water going up and down the bath at great speed whilst i get momentum to get up on to my knees!! YBB
Oh a sight to behold!!! For me too!
That's the only way I can get out of a bath - turning on to my knees before trying to get up. The trouble is the arthritis is soooo bad in my knees that it is agony. I only risk a bath (if my husband will let me) when visiting relations/good friends. Oh how I miss the pleasure of soaking in a warm, perfumed bath.☹️
I take hot bath EVERY night. Here in Japan they sell small packs of powder from different hot springs that one can dissolve in the bath water and enjoy simulated hot springs atmosphere. Tubs are deeper they typical western tub; easy to soak in with only head above the surface. No need ot worry about rush or infection because we use fresh water every time ( not like hot tubs that reuse water).
In domestic hot tubs there is some residual water in the jets - enough to cultivate nasties ...
Typically in Japanese homes they have hot tub and there are no jets. The tub is connected to gas heater that initially heats the fresh water and has pump that will circulate and reheat the water if necessary. New homes have the whole process controlled by computer. One presets the temperature and pushes the button - computer fills the tub, heats it up to desired temp and announce ( in voice) when the water is ready. After the bath the water is flushed... There is no standing water, as far as I know in the system. Tub is cleaned daily, but once in while we clean the piping and heater with special chemicals. Probably more that you wanted to know about Japanese bath :).
Do you clean it thoroughly and regularly? Jets and all? Apparently home jacuzzis are wonderful incubators ...
But if you think about it, the jet effect isn't that different from massage - and lots of people find that difficult to cope with.
When i got that horrendous rash last year it came out that home jacuzzis could be as bad as public ones!!
Sometimes worse - when people don't realise they have to be cleaned and disinfected!
Perhaps it's a case of building your body up to it. A quick couple of minutes and build it up. If it's quite powerful and you have moved to direct it at the really sore spots it's massage like and potentially "releases" the inflammation from your usual tender spots to the general feeling of being pummelled. Like a massage. Gently does it. Well jealous of baths and hot tub like bubble though. 😉
Must admit wont venture into a public jacuzzi or hot tub anymore but i am missing having our swimmimg pool in the garden but decided to put grandsons 8ft pool out in summer with the big pool heater and live there.YBB
That will be nice. For me it's 9pm I start getting that floating swimming feeling. 🌻👍
From what? Your meds? Which mine made me feel floaty!!
I get all day at the moment from the meds. Reduced gaba in morning cos found I still had some 100mg left. Getti g used to it.... 😍Peace
I have been trying to watch a 30min TV programme for 90mins. I drift off... Thank goodness for rewind!
Yep i use that a lot but come bedtime and i cant sleep!!
It does take a while but once you get used to it it. OH takes over 2200 per day so hes used to it.
Yes it's getting better. Afternoon and evening nowhere near so important to be clear. I do wonder if a morning med interacts so more investigation.... Once I eventually finish this programme, watch a YouTube video on fitting integrated brackets for fridge freezer and feeding the dog.
And to be honest being able to sleep more regularly and being able to get out of the car 20 per cent easier is worth it. Tbh I am still steamed the gp hasn't considered this treatment 10years plus ago.
I know!! OH was on a lot more morphine before and although he still takes a hefty dose now its a lot lower now the gabapentin is lots higher. It does take a bit of perseverance to get to the right dose but he reckons its worth itxx
Our old doctor after initial accident thought dothiepin was the only drug in the cabinet and it was only after the emergency surgery that he saw a pain management anaesthetist who gave him the cocktail hes on now which although it has been tweaked by gp is basically the same 11 years later. Dont change what isnt broken!!
I would be totally shattered after something like that, cant take any kind of massage stuff even from water. Unfortinately!
During my nursing career I always warned patients not to underestimate taking a bath because, though it feels good, it can be too much. If they were happy to feel wiped out in bed for a few hours afterwards then fine mad sometimes it forces good rest. The hot water can also cause a drop in blood pressure from the vasodilation of the skin. I also noticed that some people became prone to drop their blood sugar too. Getting in is easy, getting out might be impossible. When I have had baths while ill, when I really fancy it, I always make sure there is someone around and if I have a hint of feeling bad, I whip the plug out!
Make sense.x
We had a hot tub outside our home and I found it was so very helpful with PMR pain/stiffness...quite the opposite of your experience. It provided much relief. I also had one at my former home for 15 years and really enjoyed it as it seemed to make the long winters here more bearable. In all that time with both hot tubs I never experienced any rashes, etc, but then again they were properly maintained including water changes 3 times per year when jets and such were properly cleaned. The accompanying chemicals were balanced as well and I was privy to who used it (which wasn’t very many folks).
I certainly miss it!!
Just a warm bath is fantastic I reckon - and has kept me sane when my body hurt the most. I used to read in the bath a lot when younger - it was how I survived my university career with small children - I'd just sing out 'I'm in the bath' and read as fast as I could. Strangely they accepted this ! So the habit is one of respite really and I use the 'grey water' for our non-edibles garden. My mum reckoned hot baths were 'bad' for you - but I haven't as yet experienced the negative 'side effects' if there are any ....
