It is an unfortunate side effect of Pred. So you are probably doing the best you can plus any light exercise you can manage. Your doctor will let you know if medication is indicated,

If sugars are high (I am from UK and not sure what 164 means] then a low carb high fat diet will help as carbs turn into sugars. The LCHF diet put my type 2 diabetes into remission and should help with PMR

Are you a diagnosed diabetic? Pred causes the release of random spikes of glucose into the blood, independent of having eaten carbs. If you eat carbs and that coincides with a release of glucose you may have a very high reading. Cutting carbs in your diet will help mitigate the overall level which influences the Hba1c - random BS checks are fairly useless in the overall picture when on pred but if the Hba1c rises too far medication may be needed or adjusted.

is a simple presentation of what to eat and not to eat when aiming for a low carb diet.

One member of another community, a diabetic, found he could help reduce the spikes of BS by exercising after a meal, just walking seemed enough.

Hello, what has being careful meant exactly? You may not be eating much but it may be down to what exactly you are eating even if it isn’t giving you enough calories. You may also have tested just as the Pred was causing a random output of glucose.

Normal blood sugars are from 80–130 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl) just before eating

and below 180 mg/dl 2 hours after eating, so your blood sugars look fine.

Look out for Dr Jason Fung (Canadian Nephrologist) and Dr Sarah Myhill (British GP) - they will show you conclusively that the medical establishments both sides of the pond are arrogantly out of date with regard to the treatment of T2 diabetes - ie the current official protocol makes it worse and lines the pockets of the pharmaceutical companies.
