blood sugar up
It isn't necessarily eating too much - it is eating carbs that is the main problem. Pred changes carb metabolism and also causes random spikes of blood sugar to be released from the body stores in liver and muscle. A load of insulin is produced in response to that - and the BS plunges, making you crave carbs to raise it again, causing a roller coaster of high and low BS, lots of insulin floating around and as soon as glucose appears the insulin squirrels it away to store it as fat stores in particular place - around the midriff and the face in particular.
Cutting carbs, especially processed carbs, added sugar and some fruit and root veg, will help reduce the risk of all that. You can't predict the random spikes and do anything about them but you can reduce the contribution made by dietary carbs.
The sad thing is with steroids you actually need to reduce the calories that were fine before you took them. I became a diet bore when I got PMR and read up on everything to do with diet. I even got an app MyNetDiary which has a free version.
Same happened to me last time on steroids, but this time I took berberine and no bloating or weight gain.
Curious, did berberine keep you blood sugar levels in a good range or were you testing your blood sugar while taking it?
