I am sitting at home along with a bottle of Italian wine someone has just brought along. I live near the Thames, but my house is on a hill so short of a waterfall I am OK!

Ah so if you live on the hill, lowlanders will come to visit when Santa arrives at your place on his Jet Ski.

Stay safe and a hill is the best place to live................climate change rules KO.

Yikes! 😳

We have a Ford in our village...water still at the four feet gauge mark & one car still stuck up to the roof in water (silly people drive straight in & had to swim out of the windows!) but it’s not our only route in/out! Take care, have a lovely Christmas, S x

It does amaze me how incredibly stupid people can be, particularly if they have a 4x4!

Highlandtiger profile image
Highlandtiger in reply topiglette

Ahem! Some of us live in snowy places and need 4x4s. 😉

But I agree with your general point!

piglette profile image
piglette in reply toHighlandtiger

I am sure that there are sensible people with 4x4s however there do seem to be some incredibly stupid people who drive them. They do not seem to know the width and drive up the middle of the road, also seem to think it is OK to park in the middle of the road and they can drive through floods as they have a 4x4. I think my village may suffer from some really bad drivers!!

When one of my parents was in hospital a few years ago I gave my brother (who lived in the Wirral at the time but had come up to Edinburgh as things weren't looking too good) a lift in my 4x4 that I'd just used to battle through the snow from the Highlands down the A9 (which is often closed because of snow) to Edinburgh. When I parked at the hospital as I would normally do - in one space - he said "well done". Eh? He said that where he lived everyone with 4x4s just parked over two spaces and he'd assumed I'd just do the same! I think if you did that here people wouldn't be slow to point out the error of your ways!

Pixix profile image
Pixix in reply topiglette

Ahem! But the best bit is that it wasn’t a 4x4! We could only see the very top of the roof, & I think it was a Vauxhall Cora’s, or similar small car! Most mothers round here have a 4x4 to pick the kids up from school in, the roads are narrow hereabouts but they won’t drive into the mud at the side of the road as they don’t want to get their car dirty! We run an old Volvo all wheel drive, which is constantly filthy in winter, but it’s practical here! S x

PMRproAmbassador in reply toPixix

Don't you mean it is occasionally sort of clean in summer??????????????

Pixix profile image
Pixix in reply toPMRpro

Ha ha! Yes...ish...we call it our ‘working vehicle’! It only needs rain round here any time of year, & the car parks are slushy & the filth descends again! We live in muddy conditions! S x

piglette in reply toPixix

Perhaps stupid people drive Vauxhall Cora’s as well as 4x4!! I remember when mothers used to drive minis with a union jack painted on the roof. Round us we now have stick insect blonds in 4x4s that are obviously not confident driving, to pick up their one tiny daughter.

Pixix profile image
Pixix in reply topiglette

Oh yes, that’s our most frequent 4x4 experience...young Mum, one tiny daughter, enormous ‘keep up with the other Mums’ car...I guess it’s peer pressure, feel sorry for them. I remember the Mini with the Union Jack on the roof! I was brought up in Cheltenham where they filmed the sitcom Butterflies and she drove one! S xx

In fact Wendy Craig aka Ria lives in my village. She drives round in a really old unidentifiable car. She must be well on in her eighties and still works. She says she enjoys it so much.

Looks like competitive name dropping to me! 😉 I’m still smarting after all the 4x4 insults! 😡

piglette in reply toHighlandtiger

Prince Philip drove a 4x4 so you are in exalted company!

Highlandtiger profile image
Highlandtiger in reply topiglette

I generally drive a bit better than him!!

Almost missed Lorraine Kelly in your list!

He's probably better when driving off-road ...

Are you in the Cotswolds, please? My home district before I left home! She was excellent in Butterflies, I think, we used to see her a lot during periods of filming. Wow, still working in her 80’s...good for her, if she enjoys it! Love the name dropping...my parents lived in Chipping Campden, Glos, for their last 20+ years...many celebs in that wealthy area, over priced houses, but beautiful! S x

PMRpro profile image

I think I know where - and it isn't the Cotswolds ...

Just thought it may be but understand folk not putting locations on the Forum, wasn’t meaning to be nosy!

Duh...forgotten she told us about the Thames floods...Berkshire...Cookham...duh...fatigue ahead now...Carols from Kings College, too! S x

Sorry, forgot about the Thames flooding bit.

I hadn’t realised Lorraine K had moved from Dundee so, being nosy, I googled her. She seems to have done numerous articles in glossy mags about 'downsizing' to her new home..... 🕵️‍♀️

Missed putting up any photos yesterday as was away but I did check in - so A Merry Whisky & Water Christmas to you :-)

I overlook a tidal estuary, no-one is supposed to drive on it but every now and then some clever clogs decides to cross where the river is narrow (but getting deeper by the minute as tide sweeps in). One such was a pick-up truck with a very large dog sitting in the back - they got stuck mid-river, man manhandled the dog into his arms and waded through waist-deep water and with visible relief put him down on the shore - dog immediately launched into the river and swam back to the truck. Rather a lot of blue language... chortling from all of us along the riverside (we're dreadful!)

Love it...I would surely chuckle! Merry Christmas! S x
