Went to see Orthropaedic Consultant today. Fourth follow up from replacement sholder surgery on Christmas Day 2018. From scan a couple of weeks ago what was thought to be originally debris, now appears to be pieces of random floating bone that is growing! The consultant referred to this as really odd. The tendons have also torn and are not visible. Need another op called reverse shoulder where the ball joint and humerus swop places - deep joy! Apparently this is plan B reserved for 70 year olds not 60 year olds!
Also need all teeth out for bone injections due to Osteoporosis and also need two toenails removed which are ingrowing.
Interestingly one tooth also has extra bone growing on root. Is there a specialist who might look at additional bone growth as it seems odd that I have two lots of additional bone growth? I think my crumbling jaw (from eight years ago) might again be on the move again. I am wondering if there could be more I don't know about????
All ops on hold since we don't have a clue what is going on with heart. Apparently second echo last week didn't verify issues I was hospitalised with early October, however good news was the issues seemed much improved on previous scan. Want to know what caused it, though it is obviously being better managed at present.
So all in all not looking forward to 2020 due to the amount of ops on the cards!
Taking it all one step at a time and the first aim is be seated round the table with my family on Christmas Day eating Christmas dinner rather than being on an operating table. That will be an improvement on last year. Fingers crossed eh? ...................

Awh Marilyn, what’s going on? This really isn’t very fair, is it?
Thinking of you, sending positive thoughts & the strength to deal with it all.
Your Christmas will be better than last year & let’s hope you can each of these issues sorted quickly & without too much pain or stress.
Kind Regards
MrsN 🌷🌷🌷
Oh no.... Did you fall on the shoulder too or was that someone else? It can't be a worse holiday season surely. Just be careful and take care. Hopefully your shoulder will feel better afterwards. We can always hope for positive outcomes. It just having thd right surgeon doing the right surgery. I will keep my fingers crossed things quieten down your ❤️ is dx fully. 🤞
Fell on 18th December Poops, had op on 25th Dec. Not in pain with shoulder at present, but limited mobility due to tendons so it is not dire. Just don't really want to take the backwards step to go forward.
I can understand that. Do you think it would be better left alone or is it just going to get worse? A fall caused it... I knew a fall was involved somewhere!
Am leaving it for moment. Told consultant we will review it in March. Though now thinking it might be best to have op March / April as we have booked holiday for September!
Have put off even thinking about reverse shoulder op until March at present to give myself a bit of space. Just remember the helplessness i felt last time. Not sure if it is better knowing what's coming or not?
Hopefully by sharing / off loading angst I can forget about it till nearer the time.
It will be hard but I hope you can try and put it to the back of your mind long enough so you get to enjoy Christmas this year.
Hopefully a Family gathering will help sustain you and give you strength for the work ahead.
My Aunt had similar bone growth at her hip while waiting for her replacement operation some years ago , she hasn't said why they say it happened . I just know it meant they kept having to cancel her op for a different one , as each time her appointment finally arrived the bone growth meant she needed a different type of operation or joint.
The upside is , that she has had both done and got back to being active in a way she hadn't been able to do for years and only has mild OA and moderate RA Pain now , she still does her exercise classes and lost any weight she put on from being less active , so there is hope.
So sorry to hear you have all this going on, after all you've already been through! I hope it doesn't spoil your Christmas too much. I suppose you've got to take just one day at a time with it all. Take care. Thinking about you. Xx
Deep joy - not! But it does all sound rather strange doesn't it?
I think you are safe for the 25th though - daughter No 2 has been waiting for urgent surgery since July which theoretically needed to be done before November to remove the need for another less major procedure which the surgeon has said could, at a push, wait until January - but she was told the other day that no-one who needs more than 1 night in hospital will be scheduled before the end of January at least because of winter pressures.
Though since they have been at winter pressures status all summer, the mind boggles what it is like at present ...
Norovirus making a big show round here so no visitors plea from lots of hospitals. Of course I seem to be having to go to hospitals all the time at the moment.... I am waiting to be struck down... I am lucky that way., 🤢
Wow Marilyn you have wacky bone growth for sure. At least you have your priorities right and plan on enjoying Christmas with the family. I wish you lots of luck in getting things sorted out as early and as successfully as possible in the New Year.
No painteratheart. I wasn't taking bone meds prior to gum problems. In 2012, long before PMR had crumbling jawbone which had to be filed. Gum disease runs in family. Had infections previously but frequent since diagnosis. Not just infections in gums now. Just need all the teeth out before taking bone meds, though Guys consider me high riskjaw osteocronosis so even when the teeth are gone I may decide not to take bone meds.
As you say you can only take one thing at a time and deal with that as it comes. So sorry that you appear to have such a lot going on but knowing you and your positive approach you will get through all this. Yes hope that you have a good family Christmas, so unlike last year. All best wishes - keep us informed- Jackie xx
I have had lots of dental/jaw pain issues as I developed avascular necrosis of jaw many years ago. This may be due to clotting issues (APS) in conjunction with vasculitis.
