Watch your step on the ice.

Whilst out walking the dogs this morning I slipped and fell on a patch of ice and had a crashing fall, right hip, elbow and shoulder. I was being so careful to walk on the grass verge but just caught the edge of it, luckily I have not broken anything but my shoulder is very painful. So you dog walkers please take care, I was lucky this time.

You have my sympathy. I’ve just done the same except mine somehow ended up as a forward flier as I tried to avoid going down, so I landed on my stomach with my arms outstretched at the feet of a lovely, but rather shocked, young man (in fact I just about took him out) who helped me up. Grazed hands and knees and twisted ankle and knee and complete loss of dignity but nothing broken so I consider myself pretty lucky too. Take care everyone.

This happened to me several years ago. I went staggering and slipping into a man's arms (he was about 60 years old) and as he held me tight he said "you are the second person thrown into my arms today - what a pity it didn't happen to me when I was 25". 😂😂

Now, at 80, I don't even venture out if it is icy!!

This poor guy just looked terrified! And relieved I'd not flattened him too!

🤣🤣🤣 For first bit.

I don't blame you. I have finally got a friend who says she won't go in the ice this year.... 84 so I go mad if she tries and tell her I won't visit her in hospital if its her own fault. Of course she knows I would but fingers crossed she takes note!

How shocking for you! I have known me trembling on the doorstep hardly daring to go out and having to because it was a workday. I now have stout boots with a deep tread, perhaps my Nordic walking poles would be useful. It is very hilly in Sheffield. My lunatic of a dog would pull terribly as well ( a rescue, virtually untrainable). I find the homeopathic remedy Arnica helps with shocking falls like this.

Apparently if you take the rubber feet off the Nordic poles you can use the blunt metal spike on sand or packed snow, so worth a try on ice - test they won't slip.

Nordic poles may be the way forward, my two dogs a whippet and a big lurcher deerhound/greyhound don’t pull but lurcher stops suddenly for wee scenting which can pull my shoulder, otherwise very well behaved, thank goodness, but don’t know how I would manage with the poles.

Definitely go with the poles as long as the dogs don't pull you over as they chew on them!😋

Sorry for you , get that rest xxx

I don't know how you can walk one dog, let alone two, using poles. Guess that won't really work at all. Although it appears some people do manage somehow; google nordic walking with dogs.

OUCH! Got to love winter... Not. There some ice shoes in another post. The thing I wanted to say as well as get well is that a research group suggest increasing pred after a fall to stop a relapse. I don't know what you are on at the moment...

I am on 14mg, today was my first day on 13mgs so when I got home I took an extra mg, hope this helps.

The really stupid thing is I have ice grippers but didn’t think I needed them! 🤷‍♀️ I never learn.

I’ll take some extra pred now. Thanks for the suggestion. Catching up on reading (my copy of Your Bones arrived today) and am about to binge watch Spiral episodes to catch up before they disappear from iPlayer. 📺

in reply toHighlandtiger

I watch series 1 but then missed rest so once they go on britbox I will see if the lot is there.

I am on a crutch so bought spikes that flip down on the bottom after seeing them on the of the scandy shows.

That will be some binge! It's series 7 now....

in reply toHighlandtiger

My sister has been watching it so kept up to which series. If I decide to binge one day I really binge. I am terrible I haven't got the patient once a week (or twice on bbc4).

I can’t remember the plot after a week.

Me neither. Binge is best

Thank you for your reply, today was my first day on 13mgs (from 14mgs) so I took 1mg when I got home . If I need to higher the dose what would you suggest and for how long, i have been reducing by 1mg every 2 weeks and have had no problems, I am trying to be so careful

If you are lucky just being watchful will be enough - you may be well above the dose you need, in which case you are likely to be OK.
