Aloe Vera gel

I’ve just read Kate Gilbert’s really helpful book and was very interested in the chapter that a leaky gut may be contributing towards inflammation.

She drank aloe Vera gel for4 months and found it really helped to reduce the pred. Has anyone tried this? I’d be really interested to know.

Hi,

If you look at related posts you’ll see it’s been discussed before.

It’s worth a try, but don’t think it’s a miracle cure from responses - seems to get mixed reviews.,

But you won’t know until you try.

You make me want to read her book again. I was so scared and clueless. I didn’t retain this. I just wanted to know what I’d got. Thanks Sue!

I have an acquaintance who drinks a certain amount of aloe vera juice when his inflammatory skin condition flares up (his hands look scalded). It works for him, but I seem to remember there are a couple of different forms and only one works for him. He doesn't put it on the skin. I tried that kind for my PMR and I really don't know if it made a measureable difference. Eventually I stopped because it's rather expensive to take just on spec although I did take it for several months. I definitely find I feel better in the morning if I've had a ginger tea the evening before. Inadvertently tested this when the ginger locally available was horrid for a few weeks and I didn't have any.

Oooh. Anything us worth a try.

Apparently there is 2 types to take orally and Kate said to take the gel . the other one (can’t remember what it’s called) acts as a laxative.

The one I used was definitely a gel and very hard to get the last bit out of the narrow-necked jar. You probably have to swish it with water and drink more.

The one she recommended is in a carton. Quite expensive. But would be lovely if it worked,

You can but try. Our aloe vera get comes from the US, I don't ever remember seeing cartons, just the one brand, Lily of the Desert, in a couple of different formats in glass or plastic.

As an aside it's shocking how much product we throw away because we can't get it out of the container. I've taken to cutting open tubes and find I can get at least another week's worth, sometimes more. Now to figure out how to get the last of the lotion out of the plastic pump container now that I can't get my much loved skin cream any more - it came in a tube, cost lot, and was the reason I started cutting the tube open at the end.

Eating Probiotics like yoghurt ( a few spoons beforehand meal) and reducing yeasts/ fungus foods and processed sugars works for me. And going mainly wheat free.

I don't have any wheat , fungus/ yeast , processed sugar products if I get a bout of any stomach issue. I also take Pure Turmeric everyday for the stomach.

I tried aloe Vera a long time ago , it didn't do much for me , and some people I know found that it caused diarrhea, but it is one of those things that may work wonders for some and do nothing for others . Like any remedy or drug it's a personal thing.

Just start on a smaller amount and then work up to the recommended dose , a bit like testing a colour on your hair , or make up on skin . It's good to test a supplement or new drug from the minimum and work your way up to be sure you can tolerate it

That's my experience , hope it helps .

Mmmmm. Timely post this as I had an awfully upset stomach a couple of days before this GCA episode. Awful tasting burps.... I must check Kate’s book out again. D

I have tried this, managed to get through 2 cartons but it tastes disgusting. Was trying other things at the same time so hard to say if it made a difference but anything is worth a try !
