California wildfires update.

I just want to thank everyone for all the wonderful support and practical suggestions I received from so many people. It’s been pretty hectic and I haven’t replied to all the answers I received, I may not get it done, I’ve been slowly catching up on laundry at the laundromat and grocery shopping, etc.

We have power back and there is no wind forecast for at least 10 days. I hope we can get some rain after that and avoid any more blackouts. We had four of them in three weeks.

The good news is I think I’ve avoided a flare by keeping at my current 11 mg and not trying anything crazy like tapering and by really pacing myself through all this - resting after doing anything! Lesson learned.

And I give thanks every morning for lights, hot coffee and breakfast, heat, (getting chilly in the nights in the Sierra foothills) and all the conveniences taken for granted.

Love to all of you wonderful folks!💖❤️💕

That's good.

Don't feel you HAVE to reply to everyone individually - it will take a lot of time and emotional effort. This is just as good a way to do it, everyone has the opportunity to see your post.

Wish I could send our rains over there - been ridiculous the last few weeks. Same in the UK too.

We've had a bit of a drought here as well, even had a voluntary water restriction in place which even hurricane Dorian didn't provide enough water to lift. But there's been the odd rain since then so all okay. We had a recordbreakingly cold spring followed by a recordbreakingly hot summer. Hard on the crops. But all in all I think we are blessed. Our big issue is, next to New Orleans, we are the part of North America most at risk from climate change and rising sea levels. All that is stopping us from becoming an island in the next storm is the rail bed which runs through the Isthmus of Chignecto, which was not constructed for this purpose. Millions of $$ worth of goods cross that little strip of land every day, not to mention people, so it's past time the dykes built in the 1700s were repaired and enlarged. Or, probably more sensibly, bridges constructed. Meanwhile our government continues to approve waterfront construction.

Here's a picture of what is already happening with a combination of storm and high tide. This is the route I take when I visit my daughter in Ontario. kingscountynews.ca/rising-s...

That's not where I live, but the corridor I travel through when taking the train to and from the rest of Canada. I live on the Atlantic coast which is a different situation, still threatened but not in the same way, and I think personally we're okay!

Yes! I moved out here 4 years ago from Atlanta where I lived for 40 years, - no fires there!

Good to hear from you. I've been thinking about you during all the coverage we see here in New York.

Here's hoping you get a break.

So glad to hear you are ok, I am at 5 mgs and have not even tried to taper, Our daughter was evacuated in Lafayette CA for a day while a small fire burned near her house she evacuated to Dublin CA where our son lives, her house did not burn but three others did as well as a Tennis Club. We consider ourselves lucky. I hope we get rain.

Glad to hear from you Maggie and that you and your family are OK, aside from the stress!

No, tapering would have been crazy with so much stress. I’ve been holding at 11 for a few weeks now and may begin to go to 10 as I feel OK, aside from being so tired.

I don’t see rain in the forecast. Hope it changes!

It's all here in Europe - they've had more than the usual total for November already! I wish I could send you a bit ;)
