Ok I have had enough this is getting harder by the day. MyPERFECT eye doctor called me yesterday and told me to go back to my primary doctor because I should not have jaw pain or slight headache at 30 mgs prednisone.
So now I am supposed to go in and let them find out what is wrong as he doesn’t think it is GCA or PMR.
She already has me going for endoscopy for my swallowing and other esophageal symptoms...
he said my jaw should not hurt unless I am chewing. Well it aches or hurts a lot when not chewing.
I have an appt this Friday so I will see what she has to say.... I am so weary of this.
I am truly stunned.. I thought he had a handle on it. I guess it was too much for him.
I have no dental insurance so now am trying to figure out what I will do. I have to recoup my funds from my move. My teeth don't hurt everyday so not sure there is a problem ...
My jaw hurts mostly on right side but left once in awhile on left
You just must Lin. Deep breath, best foot forward. Let’s get to the heart of this. We are all sick of this but thankfully we live in an age when there are remedies. Holding your hand ( virtually).
Yep I will be fine... You are so sweet.... Since my doctor is new to me maybe we can go over things n see. I wished I never knew about loss of vision. That is and has been my biggest concern... Without that I would not be so worried...
But not going to get worked up about it. Just another day in the pmr world...
My doctor completely missed my GCA. I had a sore scalp, sore/aching temples, blurred vision, my jaws weren’t particularly painful but the chewing sensation sent pains into my temples It wasn’t until my Rheumatologist said that with how high my inflammation markers were it was a wonder I didn’t have GCA that it was confirmed the symptoms I kept asking my doctor if it was GCA was actually GCA. Everyone is different so I think it’s a bit of a sweeping statement to say because you haven’t had jaw pain that it’s not GCA.
Yeah I have moved so many times and each time I have new doctor's n each one thinks differently. I am now settled for good n have no thought of moving again. I am finally in a nice place for seniors.
I have had and still have GCA symptoms. I like my new GP and hope she can sort it out.
Had jaw pain before diagnosis. Not just with chewing. Still have pain or aching when I flare.
Have you had a temporal artery biopsy ? Here in the US most insurance companies require one to confirm diagnosis. It drives you crazy not knowing.
I have never had inflammation markers out of normal range.; not from day 1........The biopsy confirmed what we were dealing with.
As already started, every body is different, and GCA is crazy contrary! It's a disease with ever morhing symptoms. Unfortunately, most physicians here don't understand GCA.
"Here in the US most insurance companies require one to confirm diagnosis"
And what happens when a TAB is negative? That doesn't mean it isn't GCA, it means they didn't find the things they were looking for, which is not the same thing and there are multiple reasons why it happens,
Blurry, Are you saying that your biopsy came out positive for GCA, but you didn't have the raised blood markers? I watched a video by some GCA expert claiming that of hundreds of confirmed CGA patients, not a single one lacked the the raised blood markers. The reason I ask, is that I am exhibiting simultaneously three of the four classic symptoms for GCA, yet no one really takes my concern seriously because I don't have the raised blood markers. I have a biopsy scheduled for next week and hate to endure the invasive procedure if it is really impossible for me to be GCA positive without the typically raised blood markers.
are just 4 links to confirmation that raised blood markers are not essential in a dx of GCA. Up to about 1 in 5 patients do not mount the inflammatory response that raises the results - so symptoms always trump lab results. I know a couple of people whose blood markers didn;t rise for some 6 months after the symptoms started.
Yes. That's what I'm saying. I had headache, weakness, a bulging temporal artery on my forehead. My inflammation markers were normal. My biopsy was done within 24 hours. . It's been frustrating because the typical blood work to watch for flares hasn't been helpful in my case.
Print some studies and take them to your doctor. Self advocate, self advocate, self advocate!
Had a biopsy in my 40s it was negative... A month on prednisone those symptoms went away.
I had pmr for months prior to GCA diagnosis... Classic symptoms sores on scalp temporal pain and jaw pain. It eased up with the higher doses of prednisone. That was in 2015 Dec.
I have gotten as low as 7mgs then crash n flair.
Not sure how much stress I can take with moving n dislocated shoulder. I thought I was in a flair because of that...
