I don’t think this link will work. With the longer one I received a warning from HU that it could lead back to my details. It was on today’s BBC health bulletin that I get in my in- box. It feels important.

I wish I knew the trick to post links from an iPad.

It does work!

Heard this on news earlier - interesting because I take mine early evening - been nagged by GP to go back on them after coming off them last year following knee operation and them being really low! Only very small dose this time around.

Mine are naturally higher in the morning than the evening - always have been - odd I know - buts that’s me!

So I suggested taking them in the evenings to try and bring the morning readings down.

GP was a bit dubious to start with - and obviously the worry is if pressure goes too low at night and you get up to go to loo or whatever you could fall -especially if they are naturally lower that time of day.

Seems to be working for me, but obviously each case needs to be considered on an individual basis.

This is quite a dilemma! I've always taken mine in the morning and thought I'd better change to the evening. Now, with this news, I don't know what to do!!

Discuss it with the doc - as it says in the article.

takes you directly to the article and I got the same box from HU that says you are navigating away from the HU site - nothing about leading back to details.

That is because you stopped at the right place. There was a lot more after that reference number on my link.

I’m a bit wary I had a horrible blackmailing scammer who said they’d taken over my computer with malware and I was to pay 2,500 in bit coin or they would publish all my stuff on the internet ( photos of my beloved grandchildren??? 😐) The scary part was, they had one of my genuine old passwords. There have been data breeches in major companies like eBay and this scam is getting common apparently. The police don’t do anything unless money is taken. Change your passwords!

Thanks for this SJ. Many on this type of medication could potentially benefit from this important info.

Went to my GP last week for my 3 month appointment and shared that I had not taken my bp medication since Aug 6th as I was experiencing dizziness and feeling light -headed. I had cut my dose in half the previous June/18 when these symptoms emerged. Went to local pharmacy both times to check my bp a few times per week....sure enough it was around 90/60 both times. Since I stopped it completely, I’ve taken my bp weekly and the highest it’s been is 123/82. GP was pleased and said he was proud of how I’ve adopted a new healthier lifestyle (diet, exercise, rest, low-stress....well still working on the last one).

Here is another link to the article - the Telegraph also picked it up. bbc.com/news/health-50122964

Now, this news is not at all new. Most people's BP dip at night that is a major reason why one should not take antihypertensive drugs in the evening if one has glaucoma. A nose-dive in intraoptic pressures can lead to retinal damage of the eye or eyes. There are other factors that might be decisive in which eye, but damage can be done.

Now, a reasonable BP is necessary to ensure that the blood gets around the body and to the eyes. The goal posts / guidelines keep changing, not so long ago, for the over 60s it was 140/90, then pharma stepped in to reset the guidelines which were changed to 123/80 - but, for many, especially women, this is too low and can lead to dizziness and hence to falls etc (especially if getting up at night). And, if have glaucoma, damage to the retina.

Depending where you live, Nth America, UK or EU, the guidelines tend to change. Here in France, my glaucoma ophtho was pleased to advise me that it was a bonus to have a bit of hypertension : apart from the spikes, it is 140/90 - 160/95. When it dips, which occasionally happens, 123/80, not happy, and certainly would not be happy with that as a night time BP reading ! Moderation, and check with your medical team - your GP will not have this knowledge, he will be following the general guidelines...

IF you have eye problems, check it out, this info is not new, and any good ophtho will know the time of day, can also search under : dangers of low blood pressure and glaucoma; and variations thereof. Dangers of taking antihypertensive medication at night time if one has glaucoma. The specialist medical journals is where one checks, not Wiki - Be proactive, focused and diligent in your searches. Make notes as you go, can always send emails with the info, back to yourself in draft form, and continue adding the results of your searches to the draft. Have fun digging - And, always check back with a member of your ophthalmology team.

Take care the eyes.

- danger of antihypertensives taken at night if have glaucoma -

Have just done a search under this criteria - rafts of info to get anyone started.

Take care of the retina - take care of the eyes.

Some other links to it... Late to the party but wanted to try it. The first is health line easy to read.... The second is the actual research.
