Have raging tooth ache. (Sods law it always happens on a weekend!) Paracetemol not touching it. Is it ok to take effervescent Co Codomol with pred?

From reading the forums I'm sure people do. Just don't take it at the same time as the pred. Codeine is an opioid isn't it? Not a nsaid. When I have a bad headache I do take aspirin and have been known to take the equivalent of your co-codamol, but I make a real effort not to take them near my pred dose and always have some food.

Hi Marilyn

Yes as long as you don’t take it too soon after the Paracetamol as the Co Codamol contains Paracetamol.

Hope it eases overnight.

Morning YB

I am having to take two cocodamol during the night and have wondered whether tramadol would be better (I have PMR and Polyarthritis). Do/Did you have any side effects? Thanks!

😎 Lovely day here.

Obviously watch when you take it like mrsnails says. Paracetamol should be every 4 hoursxx

You can take it but if you prefer taking Soluble Paracetamol it may have the same effect if you take a brand using caffeine as well.

You may benefit by getting some clinical mouthwash it gently number the pain where it is . Also swilling your mouth with warm water and a little salt through the day too , especially if you have some inflammation or a mild infection because of a tooth problem.

Use a heat pad inside your pillowcase as the warmth on your cheek could also reduce the pain.

Hope it subsides or you get to see a Dentist soon.

Morning Marilyn

Hi Mrs N. Thanks for asking. Took the Co Codomol at 10.30pm as I had taken paracetemol earlier so had to wait! Oh the throbbing!!! It took a couple of hours to take effect but did the job as I slept like a baby from 1.00am till 8.00am! Thanks for the link. Will try to make it through today as my dentist will probably see me as an emergency on Monday and take tooth out. Hopefully, in the meantime, the emergency supply of antibiotics I have started taking will kick in. Oh the joys of having an auto immune disease eh? Thank you so much for your support. It is much appreciated, as is the support of this wonderful, caring community.

You forget how painful toothache can be until you have it! 🌷

Am waiting on outcome of a referral to Guys teaching hospital to have remaining teeth out as job lot! Dentist and Rheumy have worked together on it. I had issues with a crumbling jaw about seven years ago where jaw bone was splintering off and coming through into mouth cutting my tongue! Had an op to file the bone down at the time. Rheumy wants me to have annual injection for Osteoporosis but can't have it whilst teeth are present. If I am accepted by Guys I am hoping that they will provide access to best long term solution as I will have no ridge for dentures. Fingers crossed.

You are probably OK taking an NSAID as a short term measure - especially if you take it in the middle of a meal and/or get some ranitidine/Zantac to take too. I was on very high dose i.v. NSAIDs for over a week - at the behest of my rheumy who wasn't at all fazed by mixing them with pred provided I took a PPI/ranitidine.

Yes know just how you feel except mine came on the middle of last week and was able to get emergency appointment next day. Like you need to have this tooth out. It is right at the back and xrays showed that root canals were not very clear. I’ve had a lot of trouble before with root canal treatment as mine are very narrow and hooked and I had to have one down privately a few years back because too tricky. Your situation sounds a little more involved so hope you get on ok with that. My dentist offered to take my tooth out straight away but I felt I wanted to be prepared with a bit of extra pred so he has treated it inside and put a temporary filling in. I have it out this week. All the best xx
