Getting a blue badge for parking

Has anyone managed to get a blue badge, on the grounds of having PMR? Some days I can walk the 50 metres but on others I get exhausted.

Hi . Yes I have one and it’s invaluable. I had to go for an assessment to see how far I could walk . You have to stress how you are on your worst day . Go for it , you won’t regret it .

Well, today l drove myself to the Nail Salon & when I saw how someone had parked next to me, l just knew l couldn’t get back in the car to drive home.

So l sat down pondering how to get home, eventually l realised l’d have to get my husband to drive over in my car for him to squeeze into his car & l’d drive home in my own!

This is why l really need a Blue Badge for Parking but not really sure if l qualify? But after today l think l’ll look into it.....

Ian has one but unfortunately it doesnt stop idiots parking badly next to us, especially in supermarkets!! It does make a difference though so you should try. It really depends on the councilx

Go for it! Put on the discomfort - there are many who stroll away from their cars, come back with heavy shopping bags, hop into their car and off they go!

Thanks to you all for encouraging replies. I think it will depend on my Council but i may give it a try.

Someone once parked 4 in from my driver's door! To be fair, they may not have realised as they had reversed in which should have put their passenger door next to mine if I had had a LHD car. But I don't! Then I just managed to get in the passenger door and slide across - and I did the same recently so I can still do it!

But if you emphasise you can only get in and out of the car with the door wide open it should count too.

It's in the lap of the Gods I'm afraid. My sister is still waiting for heart surgery after they discovered she has Pulmonary Fibrosis as well - she can't get from one room to another some days because of her breathlessness. She was refused a Blue Badge.

Go for it but make sure you emphasise your worst days. I'm sure your good days are few and far between. x

I spoke about this recently and the dilemma I felt. Listening to the replies I decided to go ahead. When I saw my GP yesterday I asked if he would be willing to write a supportive letter (I would be happy to pay for it!). He said he would as he thought that if anyone deserved one - it should be me!!

I’ll let you know the result.

I was halfhearted about applying because I felt I didn’t really deserve one until as other day similar to PMR pro I couldn’t get in the door. I could get in the passenger door but impossible for me to clamber over into the drivers seat. Fortunately I only had to wait about 10 mins for the other driver to appear. She was very apologetic but car parks, particularly multi-storey and big store car parks just haven’t the spaces to accommodate the much larger modern cars.

Perhaps I will apply after all. They can only turn me down because walking like a penguin still gets you where you want to go. 🐧
