Hi Sue,Yes,

I got one recently. If you receive the high mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, then you are automatically entitled to a Blue Badge. If you do not, then you have to put details of your condition on the form & the council will write to your G.P. The form can be downloaded from the Direct Gov website or you can get from your local council.

Hello Sue

I was given a form for a Blue Badge by Social Services when they called in to check on my needs due to me being bed-bound from what we now know was unadiagnosed PMR. The very best thing to come out of their visit was a raised toilet seat but I didn't then apply for the Badge as I wasn't going anywhere apart from hospital via ambulance and wheelchair! However when eventually diagnosed, I applied on the form available from local Social Services and was then sent for an assessment, following which the Badge was supplied. I'm not sure on which grounds, either PMR and GCA or the slipped vertebra at the base of my spine which causes problems getting in and out of the car. The badge has been a particular boon as with the wider disabled parking bays, I no longer worry when parking my car that I won't be able to get in it when I return - I've given hubby a few grey hairs, having had to ask kindly strangers to move my car for me so that I can get in!

Thank you Celtic. I do not drive but have children who do and my parents. I hate having to ask to be taken places but a blue badge would help. I can walk to town which is about 15 mins but then I am done and really struggle to go on. If I get back then I am knocked out for the day with pain

Just to let you know I was refused the blue badge stating I did not meet the criteria. How much pain does one have to be in to get any help? Hey ho onwards I go

Hi Sue,

Thanks for letting us know. I did think I might apply, but let's face it, it would be a waste of time.
