How does having a nights sleep with no rem sleep affect me
Lackof REM sleep: How does having a nights sleep... - PMRGCAuk
Lackof REM sleep
The a few ideas out there that suggest that REM sleep helps us sort out issues in it minds but I don't know. I have just enough rem sleep, my "issues are sorted". Here's a bit of reading.....
Good question, never really thought about it. The first year of GCA my sleep was awful and I felt bad all the time. I am finally getting a good nights rest and have frequent dreams. Apparently dreams are indicative of REM sleep and REM sleep is when the brain sorts out a lot and does some housekeeping. This article was easy for me to understand, thanks for introducing this topic.
I love sleeping. PMR has undoubtedly disturbed my sleep quality and. I have struggled. (I have amitriptylene if I need it). To avoid amitriptylene, I prefer to take an over the counter sleep aid and also cannabis oil (holland and Barrett) at night. I wear a Fitbit (seems to give a reasonable picture of sleep quality but careful not to get obsessed). Health unlocked has a sleep group. Mindfulness helps me relax and reduce anxiety. No technology at night. Last night I got stonking nine hours (I am on hols!) I am currently tapering (5 / 5.5 alternate days) and I have shingles!
If you feel OK afterwards probably not a lot! You are going by your Fitbit or whatever I assume? In which case - taking it off at night is possibly a good idea? They do lie ...
I know someone who is obsessed with her Fitbit and worries a lot if it tells her she doesn’t have the correct amount/ type of sleep. I haven’t got one so can’t refer to it but I do have episodes of nearly stopping breathing and very loud snoring( so I’m told) . I often wake up as though I haven’t had a good nights sleep so I have been to my doctor recently to investigate sleep apnoea. I have been referred to a sleep clinic but I think the waiting time is 9 months!!
