HACKER???

yogabonnie profile image
25 Replies

I just got a notification that I had a private message from hthmk and there was a photo and I clicked on it (stupidly in the email) and I think it is a hacker. I have a Mac so I dont think it hurt my computer. I immediately shut down the browser and turned off my computer and restarted it. Unless you are out there hthmk everyone should NOT click on links in emails from HealthUnlocked but just go to the site manually.

I get friend requests on FB from those types on a regular basis. Given how many people are on FB - how do they find me? Always in the US too ...

I had that explained to me when I got a blackmail threat that looked like whatever they were posing as. That is scary that however careful you are they can pretend to be anyone ...

There's usually a difference in the sending e-mail. But i must say I'm puzzled by the scams that arrive in my inbox from my own email address. Can't block that address!

No you can't even be sure of that .

Best policy on home email or messages on any site , if you don't know it , don't open it or press on a link in a dodgy email.

It's horrible when you end up with something rude or graphic

And run the virus check before you think of restarting your phone/laptop/tablet. Some viruses or worms don't start until you power on and power off. These people are so up on computers and employ the best hackers for criminal purposes on the dark net. It's no good being "scared" as there is not much as individuals we can do. It the search engines etc that need to deal with it and website like HU. They need to know asap so they can tackle it before others get sucked in or it works it's way through your contacts.

What's even worse is scam phone calls coming from my own telephone number...

You wonder how they do it. Strange.

I used to wonder but not anymore. I got a new iPhone last year and all I had to do to assign my name to the number was login to the carrier's website. Could have changed the displayed phone number, too, had I wanted to.

And then this spring I had the interesting experience by someone moving in down the block who thought their new address was my address. They turned off my gas & electric. I flipped out on the utility companies and both of them wrote me checks to cover my "inconvenience".

Oh, not having a smartphone I'm not privy to these tidbits.

Apparently, one can do the same with a landline.

They manage to get lists via any company you use that you haven't specifically ticked the no advertising or contact with other companies box.

Even BT in the UK was pulled up a while back for selling on lists of contact numbers to these outside marketing agencies .

It's from those agencies that other dummy companies can buy it aquire your information and then use it in a scam .

It's also why if you buy things in a shop you should never tell them your post code or number , they say you have to , you don't , it's illegal to force you to provide this information in any country at a sales desk. They only do it so that you can be bombarded with advertising and offers from them , and they sell on the info to all the companies that they link to.

It's like Chinese Whispers with your Personal Information out there , and it happens just as quickly.

The wonder of Italy - I get the occasional cold call by phone, maybe 1 a month overall but they come in spats over a couple of weeks. There is a sticker on my letter box - which makes it illegal to deliver anything not addressed to me personally.

Oh I wish that was the case here.

Now I can't work on as much artwork I haven't got enough work going to use up the endless junk that falls through my door.

We have endless calls despite being ex directory , and on a privacy calls list , as although they no longer put the call through directly they ring you instead with an answering machine message from the caller after you hear the phone ring initially , you then press to let the callers number be accepted then they get to call back , it is just as much mucking about as it was before when you could just tell the sales people to , " Go find a bus to Vladivostok!"

Some weeks I can get mornings when the phone never stops , and that's just the landline.

in reply toPMRpro

I tried using the TPS and mail preferences but royal mail have to deliver everything they have that's addressed. Most of the leaflets pushers here are kids so ignore it. It's been better since I just let my landline phone die. I still have a line but no phone.
