The European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) and the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) have published nine treatment recommendations. In this slideshow, we highlight the recommendations.

Oh dear............if this is followed, a even bumpier ride for some!
I thought recommendation 2 was going to be sensible....but then it shot it’s in the foot slightly. We all want to aim for the minimum time on Pred, but we know how some doctors will interpret that.
Thanks for posting.
How do you get to see the slide show...................do you have to register/sign in?
Interested after yesterdays meeting in the North East.
Just move the arrows each side of the picture (took me a while to work out!’
Yes I am using phone and was scrolling up and down to find log in or whatever then notice presentation moving...
It doesn't look much different but like anything it's a question of interpretation by our esteemed doctors. I feel very lucky that I have been okayed to basically self manage, with periodic input from Rheumy, 3 monthly blood tests and 4 monthly Rheumy nurse appt. I had a nurse appt on Tuesday and would swear blind that she had been looking at this forum. It didn't occur to me until after and I had mentioned it a couple of times in the 2nd year. I hope that the drs build a bit of flexibility into their treatment. Given other peoples horrid experiences I think on balance I would rather be "ignored" by GP and just get my prescription and use the knowledge from here to manage the symptoms and taper.
I am lucky that I manage my PMR myself with no input from doctor unless I ask for it. I have a repeat prescription for 28 5mg and 100 1mg tablets which I get filled when required. I am now on 4.5 mg and contemplating asking them to change the 5mg tablets to 2.5mg tablets.
👍
Dear IdasMum,
I have Looked At, this Article....Yes, erm….Rather 'in Depth, indeed complicated'....not easy to follow and has 'Endless' Adverts. Now don't get me wrong, a LITTLE subtle Advertising, is fine- even helpful....Recurring Ads, that Block a significant section of information- NO!
I'm a Vasculitis UK Member, though I am 'Positive' for RA, so I do 'Follow' your Forum- along with others too. In that regard I'm unable to really comment, on the accuracy, of the content. I 'Gather' however that a lot of people, on here, are NOT impressed with these recommendations.
Sorry that I can't be more help IdasMum.

I had my ad blocker on and got the usual request to turn it off, but when I saw there were 16 ads I ignored it. I will occasionally turn it off for a charitable or otherwise 'worthy' website, but not even then if there are 16 ads.
Dear Marijo1951,
I'm going to ask you a question here, please don't think that I'm Rude but......Where on Earth did you get an 'Ad Blocker'? Is it expensive? Effective? Sorry to go 'On' so, but an Ad Blocker...Wow! Can I be, so bold, as to ask you to 'Post' these details please?
I KNOW that many, of us, would VERY much appreciate this Marijo.
Thank you, in advance
AndrewT
Google it - there are several and it depends what your device and operating system is. Many are free.
Thank you, I will!
It is actually just a slide show summary of the 2015 Guidelines that I quote all the time. The trouble is that doctors tend not to pick up on the essentials that we know all about:
MINIMUM duration of glucocorticoids i year, duration of therapy should be INDIVIDUALISED
I have NEVER agreed with the "taper to 10mg within 4-8 weeks" - and to be fair, nor did the Kirwan group. Recommendation 7 in the full text is more explicit - and stipulated that it should be in agreement with the patient. So when it goes pear-shaped, the patient can say NO!
And I only hope Recommendation 9 is taken note of. We should be educated on a suitable appraoch to exercise to avoid steroid myopathy - it doesn't happen a lot but it happens less in patients who still manange to walk - and to improve the PMR symptoms. It does work. In fact, Sarah Mackie's team has been doing a clinical study involving increasing exercise as tolerated and it is something I do go on about a lot.
Not able to view. No there are no arrows. Clicking on the picture in the list of slideshows only sends me back to the page given in the link, which has no slideshow on it, on my computer.
Just accessed it on my main PC - if you put cursor on main picture (not the ones below) you should get arrows each side - and can then negotiate your way through.
I'm not getting the main picture.
Okay. Don’t understand that -unless your PC platform is blocking it for some reason.
Have you tried accessing the site directly rather than going through the link. This shouldn’t make any difference, but as we all know computers don’t always work logically - well logically to humans that is!
With all due respect to the authors of this article...I didn't get anything new from their Tx recommendations.
😡And...I hate masses of garish flashing adverts! Heading out for the ad block app.
No flashing adverts on mine, just one and fairly low key at that! Must be to do with internet provider - and maybe country in which you are viewing. But plenty of comments about adverts above.
Ditto for me. I went back pn to check i wasnt just oblivious to them by now. No pop ups no flashing ads just 1or 2 i mussed first time round.
