Pill cutter advice

Is there a pill cutter that neatly halves the 1 mg Pred tablets? The 1’s are so small!

I seem to be having an issue getting from 17 to 16 mg dose so thought 0.5 mg would help. Thanks.

Mine does if I keep my hand steady. I got it on-line I think.

I’m not sure if you’re in the UK but we can get 2.5mg uncoated here so you can make your dose up with 1’s, 2.5’s & 5mg’s

Alternatively take 16/17mg alternate days.

I bought an apex carex cutter I think it's called (small writing) from Amazon about 3yrs ago. It was about a 5iver then but works just as well today and I have used it a lot.

Hi,

Got mine from Boots (other chemists are available) - still using it today after 5 years - not for Pred, but other tabs. Or as MrsNails suggest, mix and match. I would rather do that, than alternate 16/17 - but that’s just my opinion.

Must catch up soon, are you driving again?

It doesn't matter if the bits are uneven - it balances out over 2 days.

I'm with PRO. I inherited mine from my dad, it's years old. It does big halves and small halves and I alternate them! Don't think I've ever had a true half!.

And sometimes I have crumbs which I take with the smaller "half".

Me too. I think the doctors would cringe to read it though, we're probably breaking every rule in the book.

Yes ,just imagine them prescribing 12 mgs and some crumbs!!!

I bought one from Boots that does the trick ...

I have tried a few pill cutters but in the end a sharp knife is the best BUT when you hand in your prescription to your pharmacy, ask for the pharmacist and request a "good" quality of pred 1mg. As a pharmacist I can tell you that there are many, often Indian or Cypriot, inferior brands available. These tablets tend to shatter when cut but a good quality brand, which the pharmacist will know, will cut cleanly in two and then into four if needed. Good luck.

I bought a Aidapt Lockable Pill Cutter from Amazon (£5.81 free pp) and so long as I place the pill properly in the V it cuts 1mg pred perfectly.

I have 2 pill splitters. One for precision cuts of small pills. The other less accurate and throws half the pill into the room I use for large pills. Use a swift cutting motion to minimize crumbling. Carefully line up pills if they are scored.

Mum lived on the border with Derbyshire. Beautiful place. I visited in October 1990 and the hills were alive with purple. We had lunch at a restaurant in the countryside. My mum and step-dad.

I find that my very sharp thin bladed paring knife does the job much better than any pill cutter which just tends to mangle the pill into crumbs.

I worry about this also. It is difficult to cut such a small pill with cutter. I am now down to 5.5mg per day. I take 2 /2.5mg in morning and cut 1mg for night. I make sure that the 1mg I cut is used on consecutive days, so that if there is a tiny difference, it evens out over 2 day period. Does this make sense. :)

I had pill cutter problems too and ended up using a kitchen knife to cut up 1mg. pills. They shatter into bits. I put all the little bits into a small plastic pot, and take out bits to make up dosage of half or quarter mg. as required. I find this quite fun!

I have a really good pill cutter from my local Well Pharmacy. Its called Safe & Sound Health and cuts 1 mg. tablets easily and accurately if I line up the slit on the tablets with the cutter blade. I can recommend it.
