Thanks to several suggestions I have taken 10 mg in the 2 am for the first time and have no pain in my arms! Now I assume I have to take my split dose of the other 10 mg at 2pm ---12 hours later?

Not necessarily, see how the day goes.

You’ll soon know when the effects wear off, and then take it when it best suits you. Most people find there’s a specific time during the day when they feel less well, and have a bit of a slump.. If you find you struggle at a certain time over the next few days then take your second dose around a couple of hours before that time.

We are all different, so it might take a few days to work out what’s best for you.

Thank you, very encouraging suggestion. I will let you know how it goes.

Maybe eventually I can reduce the mg's during the day a bit and have hopes of just taking one dose instead a split one.

Yes - I would reduce the “daily” one as you start to taper.

Not necessarily - it depends how long the pain takes to return and the ideal would be 2 hours before that happens. So it may possibly be later than that - a bit of experimentation is OK to find the best time for you. Everyone is different so it isn't possible to say an exact time.

What you may also be able to do is find times that mean you can take a dose at (say) breakfast time and the rest at some point in the late afternoon/evening that then carries over to the next morning and you have more convenient times AND no morning pain.

I eventually settled on 50:50, after breakfast and evening meal, with no PMR pain whatever.

Starting on a 24 mg split dose, I only returned to a single dose (after breakfast) at 7 mg despite earlier attempts.
