Doing well

I went off prednisone for 2 weeks after taking for a year and felt symptoms coming back, occasional aches in shoulders and difficulty walking and getting out of car. Went back on very low dose of 2mg Pred and have been managing very well. Am working a bit, gardening and keeping up with life. Must be I have light case of PMR although started off being house bound, mostly bedridden and helpless. With limited mobility. I’m grateful to be at low dose.

It could have been PMR in my system a year before I was diagnosed in July 2018 because I was going to physiotherapist for aches in shoulders and neck.

How long does it take PMR to fully manifest itself? Does anyone really know?

PS I’m Heinrich7

Many patients wake up one morning and can't move - and there are a lot of doctors who think that is how it happens for all cases. However, I think that many patients would realise there were some signs there in advance of that and I certainly felt stiffness over some months prior to the first really excruciating pain which was thigh claudication when trying to use the cross-trainer. In the spring I had realised I couldn't sleep with my arms above my head, a couple of months later I found it increasingly difficult to step up onto the step at step classes and the severe thigh problem appeared in the autumn. And then it simply got worse all over as the inflammation built up.

I think you just may be very lucky and in a minority I’m afraid. You are possibly right in thinking you did some of your “ PMR” time unmedicated. Long may this blessing continue for you.

I was diagnosed last December 12th, but think I had it long before. I was having difficulty walking and going upstairs etc. I put this all down to aging until I had absolutely unbearable thigh pain, not sleeping for three nights. I have high pain tolerance and tend to think "mind over matter, I can do this," however there came a point when that simply didn't work. My daughter said to the doctor, " this is a zombie, not my mother." :)
