Little to sick to do my own review. My crp is 52 & ear 38. Lost 3 more pounds-18 pounds in <1mo. Rheumatologist getting me in next week. Can you tell me more about my blood test numbers?

Hi spanky2019. The tests are indicators of inflammation. Each has its normal range, but different labs might have different "normal" and you will have your own individual level. Your markers are raised.

"Your CRP levels should be normal if you don't have any infections or chronic inflammatory conditions....Normal CRP levels are below 3.0 mg/L. Keep in mind the normal reference range often varies between labs." (Healthline)

ESR-

The normal range is 0-22 mm/hr for men and 0-29 mm/hr for women. The upper threshold for a normal sed rate value may vary somewhat from one medical practice to another.

Thank you. I'll pay it forward when I can. Appreciate info so much.

Those levels are both higher than normal, even allowing for personal variation. It may be because you weren’t on the correct dose of Pred for you due to the mix up, so the inflammation is still very much about. ESR is slower than CRP to respond so it may lag behind the CRP readings. Weight loss is common when you have uncontrolled inflammation and it might take a bit longer on 60mg to do it. It’s good that you have a Rheumatology appointment next week.

Have a read of this

They are both raised and so indicative that there is a fair bit of inflammation in your body. That doesn't mean it is definitely PMR/GCA, other things could lead to raised values too, and there are several underlying causes of PMR symptoms.

Thank you. Our sweet little granddaughters coming to visit today. That'll make us feel better. My hubby just diagnosed with lymes disease yesterday. Not good, but at least we can start him on medicine and know why he's been feeling exhausted. Thanks as always.

As you can see I am not great on computer. I forget that this deal corrects my spelling and abbreviations even when I am not wrong. "Ear" keeps showing up when I'm trying to say crp & sed rate. And, I think because I am on high dose prednisone it is making me angry. I am generally slow to anger, but now it only takes a word. Do others experience short temper on pred? No/little sleep I'm sure contributes too.

I'm sure most people do at some point. Many blame pred for short temper - but it is also often a factor due to the PMR/GCA disease activity itself. I had a very short fuse for the 5 years I had PMR without pred and it wasn't all due to pain and feeling generally ill.

And don't worry about auto correct or predictive text taking over. I or my phone have done some doozies. I have taken it off as I was spending ages editing. But I may let a few slip through. I understood what you meant and could imagine your frustration so didn't point it out😁

For future reference you can edit them out. You click on "more" at the bottom of your message, choose "edit", make the change then hit reply. It tells you in a green box at the top of the page if it's been successful.

I hate predictive text - particularly since I write a lot of scientific/medical words which it simply can't cope with!!

Predictive text is so annoying - especially if you are like me and don't always read what you've written, I just replied to a post and I intended to say No.1 son - what I actually wrote was No.1 done!!
