I was diagnosed with Polymyalgia 2 weeks ago after sudden accute pain. This was fallowing a heavy fall and hospitalised .i am now staying with family

I am on Steroids and feel they are gradually working .Still quite painful mornings, but can do a few steps with Ximmer frame!

In myself am ok ,eating well so hope for a quick recovery. I am 81 going on 51 been very active so this comes as a shock

I am concerned about how long I will be on Steroids and then coming off!

Pleased to know there is help and support

Thank you

Welcome to the club HM 🙁

Pleased you have support.

Depends what you mean by ‘quick’ recovery! For the moment just enjoy feeling better, coming off steroids comes later.

How unpleasant and upsetting for you. Welcome!

If this really is the PMR we talk about then you are likely to need steroids for some time - PMR is a chronic illness that lasts at least 2 years and often longer. It is possible it is a reaction to the fall though and may improve more quickly. Hope springs eternal!

You will stay on the starting dose of pred until the symptoms have improved a lot and then they will start to taper the dose, hopefully slowly, to find the lowest dose that manages the symptoms as well as the starting dose did. What dose have you started in?
