Vibrating Plate- exercise for those with limited mobility?

A short while ago katie-w53 asked if anyone had any experience of using a vibrating plate to help prevent osteoporosis?

As I can do very little exercise due to a previous condition I was very interested. the vibrating plate that the osteoporosis society suggest is safe for people with advanced osteoporosis costs £3000.00. As I don't have osteoporosis or any of the other contraindications I bought a full body vibrating plate for £40.00 on Ebay.

It is such fun!

It is supposed to exercise every muscle and after a session I feel loosened up and relaxed. The only thing it has actually been proved to do is improve balance, but for those of us with very limited mobility that is no mean feat.

I haven’t any information re use in osteoporosis or other medical conditions but a few years back used them at the gym. They are good fun! I can remember doing various exercises on them and seemed to help loosen my muscles as you said. I was in the early stages of undiagnosed PMR then. Well done on the ebay bargain.

I have one. It was about £600 which I thought was expensive I certainly would think twice about £3000

I have Osteoarthritis of my spine and asked the Spinal Surgeon about it last week He said it was ok to use it from the point of view of exercise which is essential. I have it in the garage and at least I can tone up my muscles if I can’t go out for a walk

You are right it’s such fun and it’s nice and quick.

Don’t knock improving balance, that’s a huge bonus

Take care

They have been shown to improve muscle tone - which is what improves balance. A good way of reducing the risk of falls and broken hips.

Hi there. It’s Katie-53 here! After I asked the question (seems a long time ago now) I did go out and buy one. It’s a Vibrofit One. I absolutely love using it. I stand on it and get nicely shaken about for 10 minutes a day. It really feels as though it’s helping the blood flow (can’t scientifically prove that) and I’ve noticed an improvement in muscle tone on my legs. I definitely wouldn’t want to be without it!
