I've been lurking here for 2 years and love all the info that's been given, especially from PMR/pro. My doctor thinks you give good advice, so thank you
I'm on 3 ml preds and wonder if I should carry on with the Omeprozole as although I don't have osteoporosis I do now have thinning bones.
Thoughts would be appreciated!

Hello. Glad you’ve unlurked yourself. You could try but do come off it very slowly because you can get rebound acidity. There are other options too that work differently, like Ranitidine.
Thank you all for your advice on giving up Omeprozole,my bone scan did show thinning of my bones ,but probably age! I was advised to eat more dairy products,(not hard for me at all)
Will stick with the Omeprozole, just thought it would be nice to get off one drug
Hello GrannyB
PMRPro & SnazzyD have given you great advice re the Omeprozole, have a chat with your GP as it needs to be reduced gradually but can be replaced with Zantac or Ranitadine.
I would be keen to come off the Omeprazole now you are on such a low dose ( I’d still take it with yoghurt though). Ask for your doctors advice. I think you have to do a kind of taper because of rebound gastric symptoms.
I am On a 'Quite a few' Drugs and the advice, to me, was NOT to Come Off Omeprazole. I seem to 'Get On/ Tolerate' it well and I also don't seem to get any Substantial 'Side Effects'. I have heard of, Some Patients, suffering VERY low Potassium levels after Long Term use but not often. Have you been Advised to Reduce/ Stop Omeprazole? If not, I would think Very Carefully Before doing this. You mention Thinning Bones...again is this something that is actually 'Happening', to you? If not, I really DO understand your Fears here, I would Speak to a Doctor BEFORE starting any Reduction.
Do you see what I'm advising here Granny? If you have been 'on' this Drug Regime for some time, without any appreciable Side Effects/ Problems, maybe a Change may NOT be for the better. What I'm really saying is Speak To Your Doctor/ Consultant first. Maybe I'm just 'Overcautious' but I Never make Changes without my Consultant's Say So.
Please can you 'Let Us Know' what you decide GrannyB10? Many thanks
