Amazon do Kefir Grains starter to get you going. In my opinion you need to make the Kefir with goat sheep or cows milk and add the culture to coconut milk or any other fluid of your choice.

Hi

I make Keffir with plant-based milks, but you need to use a water based culture, the usual ones won’t work.

Can be done it seems:

bevnet.com/news/2017/non-da...

teaspoonofspice.com/make-ho...

culturesforhealth.com/learn...

and the final link provides 3 different approaches depending on how vegan you want it to be.

My son is teaching English to a Syrian man. His wife insists on feeding him before he comes home, Keffir is one of the drinks she gives him. It has now grown on him after the initial Western palate reaction. I looked it up and found that it was contraindicated in those with suppressed immune systems and those who take blood thinners. This was a product made with Keffir grains and sheep’s or goat’s milk. I expect it is the bacteria. I certainly have live yoghurt with no ill effects.

Kefir has been used for a very long time. It contains far more probiotics than yoghurt and I made it for a year. My husband had eczema, tried so many medications, his elbows were so sore. Drinking Kefer cleared it up. I have had to resort to taking antibiotics over the years with having really bad chest infections. Kefer strengthens the gut, and replaces the loss of good bacteria. Also it’s high in calcium. So since my diagnosis of PMR I am giving it a try again. Hope this helps.

Sorry Aleish, just realised you are in the states and not the uk, however you may find the grains are advertised on eBay over there. Hope you have success.

I wonder if it would help the Psoriasis on my feet? If it does, I will be forever in your debt.

The warning was on a product I googled - eyewateringly expensive. I wonder if our international supermarket may have it?

So typical of the people in that region - Nat is currently in Lebanon working with the medical team in one of the border refugee camps. The lovely people, who have nothing much at all, insist on feeding and watering them at every opportunity. She seems to be having a whale of a time.

You can buy the starter grains on eBay. All you add is milk to feed the grains. The grains are not expensive at all. You will need a plastic sieve which is not an expensive buy also on eBay. At the end of the process you can add fruit. Meanwhile google Kefer and you get a lot of information on Kefer. Yeo who do the yoghurts also do ready made pots of Kefer now and have them on offer at Tesco with 50p reduction. Hope this helps. Kind regards

If there is a health food store, or a store which sells health related products, you may be able to get the kefir starter there.
