Dastardly Screwtop Defeats Me!!! AHHH!

Opening the old corn beef & sardine cans has nothing on the opening hazards with health & safety solutions of today!!

OK! May be just me!!!

This one is cunning!! Arrows & numbers looking down on the top of the bottle of surgical spirits! Right ! OK! Pressure squeeze! Follow the arrows!....Work's For while! In fact some even work properly!

Find it good between the toes myself!

I'm with you. Some lids are too cunning for their own good.

They are supposed to be childproof, but they seem to be more adultproof!

And the older I get the harder they are and then the directions are so small I can't read them either!

Yep!

Most of these signs are crap & unhelpful! Madness it is!!

Me too! They’re more an implement of torture than anything else!

Even brute force doesn't work after a while! Believe me!!

My current bottle of fast acting Tylenol needs to have its lid to pried off with a knife. 🙄

in reply to HeronNS

They should make all lids hexagonal! At least we could use a spanner then!!

Never in more danger than trying to open something!!

They should change the label to slow acting by the time you get the lid off then!

Need tools, 2 good hands, engineering degree, instructions for just abt everything. so frustrating

in reply to Lejazzhot

Spot on with the packaging madness!

If you can reach the toes?

You should have the strength of Samson after Birminham’s result yesterday!

in reply to Telian

Interesting strain on my temperament T! Listening to that game!!!

Reaching toes & socks on! I avoid the dance now! Mostly!

Who is this Samson!! Was he anything to do that Delilah that Tom Jones sang about!

Telian profile image
Telian in reply to

Wonder why that is!

You’re doing well with socks! Wise to avoid the dance!

Think you know it is!

Health and safety lids drive me mad. Have you considered using a sword like they do with champagne?

in reply to SnazzyD

You have a sword in your household!! Flipping eck you lot live dangerously!!

SnazzyD profile image
SnazzyD in reply to

No swords in this house; we can’t afford the champagne.

in reply to SnazzyD

I'll send you round a crate immediately! You be careful though! I've encountered some medical people before on the rampage!

Makes two of us

I planned on doing a bit of prep for decorating today

Struggled to open a tin of Nitro more to strip some varnish

Too exhausted and never opened tin first or last ,sore hands and arms

So had a Movie day to recuperate

in reply to Rose54

I can well imagine Rose! Strong vapour that Nitomores! Very addictive! Phew!

Just as well really it could have knocked you flat on your back!

Hope you enjoyed your movie day!

They really do make things hard to undo ,makes me very cross sometimes,a brilliant idea between the toes.Ah what a sweet looking dog Pepper, lovely photo,l bet you love him to bits !

in reply to Grants148

Yes he was a cracker Grants.

Just to clarify! I use the surgical spirit between my toe's & not my toe's to open the bottle! But that could be a useful idea rather than using the kitchen door jam!! Nice one!

Packaging is a nightmare! Don’t get me started. It’s all about protecting goods in transit and nothing to do with the end user. 🤬

in reply to SheffieldJane

Last week I needed a stanley knife to get into a new toothbrush!

Don't get me started on upside down plastic ( so called squeezy) sauce bottles! Or even eye drop containers!

HeronNS profile image
HeronNS in reply to SheffieldJane

For some things the packaging seems to be more expensive and durable than the goods.

Or boxes from Amazon that have to be destroyed by a pit bull terrier to get inside. No chance of re-using the box.

Lovely picture! Very like my old Rosie ( hooligan) rip.

in reply to SheffieldJane

Oh! No! You're not another box hoarder are you! We've a bloody room full of em!

Seller on E- Bay by any chance!!!!

Oxford8 profile image

Love your description of Amazon boxes! Laughed out loud. 😂😂

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane

No because I end up with shredded, cut bits of cardboard, totally useless. The boxes don’t make sense like they used to.

I am not clever enough to be a seller on E -bay or to open a box it seems.

in reply to SheffieldJane

All that granular stuff or bubble wrap inside too! Plus the box is usually 3 times larger than it needs to be!

Plenty of Pit Bulls in Northfield if you're short up in Sheffield!!

SheffieldJane profile image
SheffieldJane in reply to

Pit bulls are poor misunderstood mutts aren’t they? We see rescues here with obviously respectable dog lovers. They look bemused as if they have suddenly landed in paradise and can’t believe their luck.

Straw in the boxes that migrates everywhere and the tiny item buried inside, bonkers!

in reply to SheffieldJane

Actually I think Pit Bulls are illegal! Do you mean Bull Terriers like Staffies! Saft as brushes they can be! It's some of the owners who should be on the lead!

Perhaps it's their version of recycling their rubbish!

Yes I do, sturdy little bodies, and funny little faces of the same type. Sadly attached, sometimes, to boys I would not let mind my goldfish for an afternoon.

What’s with the masses of polystyrene?

in reply to SheffieldJane

Status symbol for some of the lads! Top dogs eager to please & easy to train they are! Or should be!

I wondered what happened to all those poly ceiling tiles we used in the 60's & 70's!

Still got some woodchip here! Don't think anyone will ever be able to get it off!

Last night all ready for bed and feeling relaxed had to open new jar of face cream ( vainly attempting to halt ravages of time). Would it budge? Tried damp cloth in bathroom to no avail, went to kitchen for all purpose getter offer. Nah! By the time I finally got it open with hot water and brute force I was very far from relaxed and suspect my blood pressure had risen several notches. Are we really so much weaker or are they just maliciously difficult?

in reply to maria40

I'd favour the malice view myself!! But then I'm like that with inanimate objects!

The best engineering solution is to clamp the jar in a vice & use a monkey wrench with plenty of leverage on the lid! (Note: Careful not to over tighten the vice if you don't want cream on the ceiling!) Hope that helps!

maria40 profile image
maria40 in reply to

Unfortunately no vice (not in this sense of the word anyway) or monkey wrench to hand. If I did, arthritis would probably render them useless.

in reply to maria40

Oh! ok!.. Just another impossible patient you are!!! Why don't you! Err! Try Err!

This is Dr Solution signing off! ATB

Is your lovely little dog not around anymore Pepper ? If so you must miss him very much.l can see where you get your user name from, his coat resembles salt scattered with pepper.ATB,it’s a sunny day today, and the green shoots have grown higher ,l am looking forward to some spring blooms soon.

in reply to Grants148

He was already named Pepper. Thought he deserved a little fame with the pics! He certainly more than impacted on my life when we took him over full time! Adventures!!! Conversations! Still doing them!

Yes always something to look forward to in the garden. Great to see those green shoots.
