As I wrote on Wednesday I was impressed by my rheumatologist. Today my feelings towards him have soared even higher. We have just had our post an in it was a copy of the letter to my gp from the consultant confirming everything we discussed. So although my appointment was at 4,30pm on Wednesday, I have received a letter within 36 hours of my appt.
Everything in the letter was correct even confirming that if I was unhappy at any stage i am to go back to him.
I think I am in love!!
By 'eck - what is this paragon of virtue? Even has a decent secretary!!! Or he believes in writing it himself like ours do...
I have seen some consultants in my time with the nhs and they dont usually treat letters to gp as urgent. To be honest even my own secretaries took longer than this and we were under time constraints as they were legal letters. He does appear to have acquired a halo at some stage!!
I had the same experience with my rheumatologist in Milton Ontario. I saw my family doctor a few hours after the rheumatologist and my family doc had the reporting letter. Technology plus a good doctor. A great combo.

Who is your rheumy in Milton? I’d be willing to drive from Tillsonburg and should have the name of a rheumy in case my GP wants to send me in the future.
The world can be a happy place! Careful with the ‘love-in’ though. Take another Pred it’ll pass.

I have always found during my years in the nhs that the bad staff are the ones we hear about but the many excellent staff just don't get the credit they are due.
Over the years sadly it has built up a top heavy admin and has not built up a decent computer system.
I don't even want to think about the IT system. It was never running properly and the IT department were never around to help.
I suspect that may probably have been a benefit...
The first thing they always asked is "have you turned it off and on?" The reply from me was ususlly along the lines of " no I hit it with my hammer and now all the bits are on the floor".

It has got worse and there are now lots of IT systems, all different, not talking to each other, incorrect data, and twenty five years out of date. Having worked with the IT industry I just shudder at the inefficiencies.
My eldest daughter started at the bus and was required to learn all sorts of systems but like you say none of them communicated with each other and depending where you were based in a hospital could dictate what system you would be using. It used to wind her up big time, till eventually she had enough and left
How sad that happened.
My GP cannot see my xrays because they are not linked to the hospital system. Our local hospital was put into special measures and now they have been taken over by another one and I think there are about five different computer systems probably all with different incorrect data about me on them.
That's what i thought but she couldnt handle constantly having to fight her way through the mess because it ultimately effected her clinic lists. She would spend hours chasing records and the like. It's unbelievable that your records are not correct especially if they are used in an emergency when you may be unable to question incorrect entries.xx
Dr Hadiza Bawa-Garba was accused of gross negligence over Jack Hancock who died of sepsis at six years old. As part of the case it seems that the computer system was not working so she was unable to update the information. The whole case I thought was appalling, as it looks like she was also made a scapegoat. I am glad finally they got it right.
I agree. We were having s new system installed and it would involve being without any system for 2 days. At a meeting of heads of dept we were told that to do us a favour they were doing this over a weekend. I pointed out that our frontline staff in a&e would have a problem dealing with mental health patients whose records they couldnt access on computer and by doing this at the weekend they would also be unable to ring through to office based staff for info. This was ignored as the IT idiots decided this wasn't an issue!! Until our CEO(ex nurse) threw her toys out of the cot big time!! During the mentioned weekend there were 2 violent patients who attended a&e along with 32 other mental health patients.x
What a nightmare.
It's because the people in charge have no.idea what goes on day to day. I would Love to put some idiots in suits in a real life a&e situation and then watch them rum screaming home to mummy. Sorry that was me on my soap box.xx
Only two?????????? And I will join you on your soapbox - I would love to drag JH and thingy Hancock to A&E by the ear and put them in scrubs to actually DO something. Preferably involving being shat and vomited on having been kicked and scratched ...
Well only two that were considered violent after one attacked a nurse and the other had a scrap with a couple of porters. "Luckily" the nurse had been able to see on computer that her patient had violent tendencies and had called security in to back her up. God all e knows what would have happened had the system been down. The others either were not known for violence or they attended a&e in a relatively non violent mood. My CEO was seen escorting a very subdued IT director into her offices and her own Executive Assistant decided it was safer in my office. There are a lot of people I would enjoy watching being abused like our frontline staff get every shift. I have obviously voiced my rants about mental.health issues before on the forum so I will apologise for being on my soap boxxx
