I wrote a few days ago about all this pain I have in the top of my hip. For me The pain is not the usual place for pmr pain. Had a series of x-rays . No fracture or anything else they could find. My GP had no clue. I messaged my Rheum (who I just love) and she said most definitely seems like PMR and to increase pred. to 15mg for a week. However, if I don't see significant improvement in 3 days, then stop the increased amount, go to usual amount of pred. and call the office as something else must be wrong.
Because of the wonderful people and info gained from this board, I had already increased the pred. and received some relief. I only increased 3mg. Starting today I will increase by the full 5 mg.
Wish me luck, this has been an excruciating painful week.

A good start! Must be flavour of the week - after a longish walk yesterday I walked fast in town in the hope of getting the bus. I failed. But I seem to have woken up the trochanteric bursitis...
So much easier said than done! Thing is, I like to walk but just have such a hard time. I can walk in stores as long as I have a cart to walk with. So I don't go into stores without carts.
Such changes we have to make to accommodate for pain.
It sure doesn't take much to wake up that area of the body. Every time I try and do a little exercise that area is already wakened. I finally just quit for now. Even a walk down to the mail box cause pain in that area.
Have you tried (very expensive) custom made orthotics for this?
I met someone who cured her bursitis using them, & when they were trying to diagnose what was wrong with me, an MRI found the t/bursitis in both hips. I refused the steroid injection offered, as decided to try orthotics for 3 months first & also the diagnosis didn't explain my shoulder, neck & upper arm pain. As soon as I started using the orthotics I stopped limping.
I can't comment on whether the orthotics cured the bursitis for me, as I developed GCA & was diagnosed with PMR before the 3 months was up & im sure the pred has helped.
Thank you for the reply. Yes I did all kinds of things for my feet, braces, a special kind of new shoes and orthotics. I am sure that helped my feet but didn't do anything for my hip.
This is all bew for ne too. Keep waking up to new pain. Those in Hip joint i understand and consuder my PMR baseline. But new pains around knee and calf out if nowhere confuse me. Is it from PNR or is this a “real” orthopedic issue
Hi Linney! Just want to tell you that my very first sign of PMR started in my hip. I woke up with terrible pain, went to PCP he took a blood test and called me that night telling me to go to pharmacy immediately and take 60 mg of prednisone. My recent flare was in my hip too. Horribly painful. Good look!
My hip was the first place to shout pmr at me. Unfortunately, this hip pain was in a totally different place on my hip, so it was confusing as to what was happening.
All this talk of walking on here is very interesting. Just out of hospital with a bladder prolapse repair - so far no flare , says she touching wood like mad, - the post op instructions say short walks. I'm interested in what you all think of as short walk. To me it's a kilometre - from home then round the park with the beagles! I feel advice and a consensus called for. I'm really well post op - everyone in hospital amazed at my excellent recovery but I don't want to undo the repair with too much exercise!
Start with 5mins, possibly even 5mins out and back. THAT is a short walk. If that is fine - add a minute each way the next day. Rinse and repeat. If you can feel it the next day, leave it until the next day for the next walk.
It sounds slow. It isn't. You would be surprised how quickly it builds up. And it avoids nasty surprises.
I was ona brisk 6km most days until the op on Monday. I did a slow 10 mins yesterday and today. Only slow and gentle as don't want to inform the surgeon's good job!
