I was seen at Beverley on 24/01 and given diagnosis of Polimyalgia Rheumatica and was informed the usual treatment was Predisolone steriod. But due to me being diabetic this would affect my blood sugar so i had to wait until the consultant had contacted gp/diabetic nurse before treatment could start. i am in lots of pain and it is 2 weeks since diagnosis and nothing has been sorted. Has anyone any experience of this please?

PMR & DIABETES
I am on steroids and type 2 diabetic. My blood sugars do spike in the afternoons after taking my steroids at 8 a.m. After going on a LCHF diet I got my type 2 into remission and now am on 5.5 mg of prednisolone.
There are plenty of diabetics on the forums - of all sorts: Types 1 and 2 and steroid-induced diabetics. This is the first time I've heard of treatment being delayed because of needing a diabetic nurse to approve. It makes it more difficult sometimes but not impossible and some people have no bother at all. As Koalajane says, lots of people have managed to manage things well using a low carb approach.
Go to your GP and make a fuss.
I am so sorry you may have PMR. You will find a lot of knowledge on this board and also several people who have diabetes, both 1 and 2. I was in excruciating agony before I was finally diagnosed and given pred. I do feel for you. Diabetes and pred can be managed. Can you chase up your GP? Have you had any pred to see if it works?
Poor you. I hope by now that you have been back to your doctor and made a fuss, armed with the information you have got on here. It is bad enough waiting to be diagnosed, I know it took months for me and some on here even talk of years, but to be diagnosed and not given any treatment is outrageous. Let us know how you get on.
