Night time leg pain

Hi everyone, I've had PM R since March 2017 and now down to 6. However, I'm getting bad pains from under my buttock down to my knee and sometimes down to my ankle - only the left leg and only at night. Once i am up the pains go but the muscle aches and the knee is weak. I wondered if anyone else has something similar. It's only the left leg so don't think it's the PMR!? Thank you for any suggestions on diagnosis or remedy!

Hi, I have only been on Pred for 3 weeks and have this exact thing. I had it before but it seems to have worsened and I see others on the site have it too.

Mine is in both legs and worse when I walk too much or in the evenings when I am trying to relax. I cant figure out if it is sciatic nerve or hamstrings but its definitely that route!

I keep wondering if all the inflammation disapearing from my lumbar region may have made my bulging disc worse as my walking has worsened too. So strange and disheartening. I hope you feel better soon.

Hi

Maybe bursitis or arthritis in the hip and/or knee? X-ray for arthritis. Try physio treatment. Hot and cold therapy.

Also try a few stretching exercises in bed before getting up whilst muscles warm.

If all else fails - ask doctor 🤔

Hello, it’s worth getting it checked. Sounds like it might be a nerve problem as in one to that leg is getting aggravated due to the posture adopted when you are in bed at night. This could be at the spinal end or in the buttock somewhere. The muscle may be aching because it has had impulses all night telling it to work. Sit tight there’ll be other opinions, but nothing can take the place of a decent doc doing a physical exam and possibly an x-ray.

I would want this checked out. It does sound as if you have something else going on in your hip/leg.

Sounds like piriformis syndrome (or the like, but piriformis is typically buttock pain) irritating your sciatic nerve. Good physiotherapy should help.

Thank you one and all for such quick replies, they are much appreciated. I realised that I probably didn't stress just how much my knee actually hurts during the night, it's quite painful. I expect the replies will still be applicable for that. I have Rheumatologist appointment on 23rd so will see what he says. Thank you all again.
