Sorry it is in German - but the pictures speak a 1000 words!

There have already been 25,000 insurance claims worth some 125,000 Australian dollars although the figures are expected to increase dramatically in the next few days. It happened in Sydney and the surrounding Central Coast...

Ouch, that’s terrifying noise. Not a time to be outside!

Thought it was summer now? It must have been a bit scary tennis ball sized hailstones. Good for the ground but I bet the crops and animals wernt impressed. It not freezing here in London. Then my son got his heating fixed so I don’t need all the jumpers I packed and dragged across 3 trains. I might have to shop now to get something lighter though. You can’t ever predict weather no matter where you are in the world. Is this a first for Aussies?

Summer is the worst time for hailstones - we have experienced some fun ones over here but nothing tennis ball sized. Though the place we kept our caravan on Lake Garda had one that was about a kilo! and a lot of the vans had roof lights smashed.

My Uncle and Aunt were visiting Austria in Summer about ten years ago , freak thunder storm with hail the size of squash balls , totally devastated their friends vegetable patch , literally pulled the vegetables from the ground and their hire car was covered in ball sized dents and had to be replaced.

The pictures were unbelievable , 15 minutes and the village looked like it had been through the apocalypse!

We moan like mad about the weather all the time in the UK but really have nowhere near the extremes in weather seen everywhere else , we don't know how lucky we are.

When we lived in Germany there was one of these freak storms in the Munich area. A colleague was standing on his balcony when it started and debated going out to put the cars away but realised he could be killed. It was funny afterwards though - all the cars driving around with dents all over them as they were still safe to drive. Everyone with fully comp insurance got payouts and then continued to drive them until the car died! They changed the insurance conditions after that... Almost every caravan you see has at least a few roof dents.

Shocking isn't it! A friend of mine's car was wrecked by 5" hailstones - even bigger than tennis balls - she's one of the insurance claimants!

Wow A 5" hailstone, that could knock you out. I bet the car looked a sorry sight after that hail storm!

Thanks for that PMRpro, my son lives I Sydney and sent some pictures, hail stones some bigger than golf balls. Does tremendous damage. Fortunately his car was under cover.

Such fun, I don't think. 🤔

Petrifying! Brings me back to the storms that would hit the farm in Saskatchewan, Canada. It is flat prairies and we could see the storms coming from miles away, the sky would turn the oddest shade of dark grey and the smell of the wind would literally change. My grandmother and aunt would try and get the livestock and chickens in but there were "casualties".

Gosh, sounds like a scene from the Wizard of Oz , really can't believe how much we moan about the weather in Britain when I see what happens elsewhere as normal we are so lucky really.

Just missed us - we have an excellent radar system and I was tracking the storms in. Covered the car with boards and tarps - drove the 4x4 into the middle of some close trees (that was fun!) - and then the hail passed us by about two kilometeres away. I think the bill is looking like $150 million Aussie dollars (and 2 pounds 95 and an Eccles cake.....)

Of course I am sure the insurance companies will make up for the loss when the premiums come out next year!!

I bet you feel like you were given an early Christmas miracle , must be a week to play the Lotto , you luck is in!

I haven't heard anyone else use a comment like that in brackets outside my family , so pleased , thought perhaps it was just yet another of our weird family things.

Are you original Aussies or from the UK ?
