on Tuesday I Went to GP just to get the results of my latest CRP blood test and my GP says he can't say that I am fit to fly long haul to NZ. On November 3rd I blacked out and spent 3 days in hospital. No one knows why but I now have dx of GCA.
Yesterday evening I had a call from my GP to say that having spoken to consultant in hospital, I am fit to fly.
Phew, we can now spend Christmas with our family that we haven't seen for 18 months. Oh the joy!!

We can't wait to get to beautiful New Zealand again. We leave UK 1st Dec then have 2 weeks touring South island before going to daughter in Waiouru for a couple of weeks. Where are you?
Good news on trip, hope you enjoy. This time last year I’d just arrived in CHCH!
Just make sure insurance company know it’s GCA before you go, get assistance at airports and carry all your medication plus copy of prescription in your hand luggage. Take a few extra just in case you need to increase dose, and maybe take additional dose or half dose at your stopover just to keep you going.
Thanx for the advice. Yes I have made copies of my prescription and am taking more pred than I need. We leave tomorrow so it was a bit stressful having to wait until the last minute for the all clear. Bags now packed so just relaxing for the rest of the day.
So pleased you will be spending time with your family this Christmas,l hope that the flight to NZ goes well and that you have a wonderful Christmas together xx.
Have a happy, happy time and take great care. Have you done the clever thing about your Pred dose and the changing clock? That is a bit more during the 24 hour clock rather than less. Plenty of fluids and twirl your ankles.
I also have GCA & was advised not to take long haul flights ( in my case the other way from NZ to the UK) in the short term, as they were worried that the dehydration that comes with long distance flying could adversely affect the GCA. It's wonderful that you have been given the official OK to fly, but make sure you drink a lot. Have a wonderful trip.
